Thinking Out Of The Box For Tek Vest

Why not design a high quality jacket, shell or 3 in1 with a built in protection vest? Could also have built in kidney belt too. This way you buy turnkey all at once & do not have to up size for protection. Could use padding, plastic inserts, or air pressure for protection. Hang the jacket up all at once & put on all at once. Good idea or sky blue?

It would cost a fortune and have a VERY limited market. There are simply not that many super hardcore sledders that would pony up for such a product. We already have KLIM component clothing. There are many more sledders that NEVER buy new fancy clothing and instead get year old stuff that works just fine. Not saying it wouldn't be handy to put on the whole works at one time but I don't see it in the cards.

They had the exact thing you mention. It was called the Warrior jacket and was made by Reima. Had elbow, shoulder, and spine protectors built into a coat designed for snowmobiling. Reima was bought out be Scott but there are some Reima Warrior jackets still floating around out there. Look around (amazon craigs) you can find them. Also there are a lot of motorcycle jackets that contian body armour.

Grub: This is how I layer :1st layer thin poly, 2nd poly turtleneck, 3rd core protector it breaths, 4th Back thing kidney belt, 5th bibs, 6th poly jacket, 7th Shell. I don't get cold & shell is saturated with moisture when day is done. Maybe I'm getting lazy but seems to me all but layer 1 & 2 could be designed into a 3 in 1 & all on & all off. You know if fits you when you buy it & everything can zip in & out. Now I have to hang all these & different layers up & gather to put them all back on. I won't get into all the different braces I wear due to prior injuries but I'm looking for fast on fast off & eliminate gathering. Lazy people design faster ways to do stuff. I also think the ladies would rather keep their figures with All in 1 than layer equipment like football players. Woman would rather look good than wear layered equipment protection. Right??

To whitedust, My motorcycle jacket has arm ,shoulder ,back and kidney belt the only thing not there is chest protection which could be easily added. But the motorcycle industry has not found a need to do that, apparently not enough people are asking for it.

Whitedust - we are pretty much on the same page as far as riding gear. It can be a pain but I have gotten used to it and it is not that big of a deal. As far as if this program appeals to women think of it as unwrapping a present. Remember the old Heinz commercial ANTICIPATION?

My reasoning with All in 1 is: With all the protection sledders purchase it would be better to design in 1 garmet to simplify the process. A lot people think about protection later but sized jacket or shell too small to add later & won't wear protection on outside of shell. Also never seen a female wear a tek vest. Never say never but few women. Why??

LOL Grub but who wants to unwrap a football player no anticipation for that:>). The present has to packaged well too. Marketing 101 & the ladies are good at that. lol

I have a yamaha snowmobile gortex jacket made by reima that has zip out liner, has shoulder ,elbow and spine pads that are removable. it doesnt have any chest protection but is pretty much what you describe. Still hard to beat the tek-vest but you must size your jacket accordingly

blu2u2: I was thinking more a long the lines of a zip in core protector in a 3 in 1. Your pictures of padding is not much protection. I need much more than that & would say core protector at min for me.

I do alot more riding of motorcycles and ATV's than i do snowmobiling, so i use my cold weather motorcyling gear for riding the sled. Ironpony.com has some great deals on riding jackets. I use a tourmaster 4 in 1 coat. has a zip in lining and shoulder, elbow, kidney and back protection. I had a lay down 2 years ago in a similar jacket and slid/tumbled across 75' of pavement into a ditch, without a doubt, the jacket and helmet saved my life. The coat is very warm and has zip openings for venting when it gets warmer out and is waterproof as well. jacket can be found here

They (tour master) also have heated coats, gloves and socks if needed.
