It was a terific weekend. The sleet was no where to be seen. Some wet snow but it cleared in the afternoon on Friday.
Went to Grand Island Saturday. Never seen so many people out on the bay. It was a solid ant trail from sand point going out to the ice caves on Grand Island.
Pretty cool experience. A group of the guys rode around the entire island on the ice. We opted to take the land for the far north part. Looking down at their tracks we could see slush spots. No thanks! The ice walls on the north west side are the best. Non one is going over there because it is so far. 10 football fields long giant ice walls with that blue aqua color. Amazing. I have yet to get the videos off of the gopro. I did get one posted. The beginning of our ride from the parking lot at the ferry going north along the west shore of the island. It ends with the guy I was riding with casing a pretty good crevice in the ice. He tries to jump off of an out crop on the island. He got to top, saw crevice he needed to clear, floored it and spun his non picked track on the ice. Broke his brand new fly helmet and bent the telescoping bars on the 2014 backcountry for the second time.
2 minutes and 30 seconds in to the ride.... bam - His leg is sore but still had a good day.
