Tightening Limiter Strap 2002 Indy 500

My 02 Indy 500 (96 studs) tracks fine going straight, but wants to keep going straight in the corners when the carbides (6") start wearing down. The front 1/4 of the carbides seem to wear down to almost nothing & the back looks almost new.

I don't want to keep buying carbides so I'm going to tighten the limiter strap to put more pressure on the skis when slowing down & taking corners.

I've never done this before - so I want to run my plan by the "experts".

- Raise the back of the sled to take the weight off the rear
- Install a ratchet strap and compress the front end
- Remove limiter strap and adjust to new position
- Re-install limiter strap and remove ratchet strap

How far should I compress the front? I don't want to go to far and make it hard for my wife (she loves my sled) to steer.

you can just tighten it without removing the suspension at all. You don't have to move it to a new position, just have someone sit on the back, stick a ratchet under there and tighten the nut that holds the weird shaped bolt to the limiter strap.

Limiter not your problem leave it alone waisting your time with that. You need to shim skis & ski savers. See www.bergstromskegs.com for shiming skis. Talk to Scott he will probably send you shims for free.

X3.

Uneven carbide wear is a sure sign that your skis need shims. The front is digging in too much. Putting more pressure on the skis will only make it worse.
