Togwotee Lodge Rates

Howdy,

I'm most likely making my first trip out west next winter and am psycho about planning and budgeting for the trip. Since the lodge is closed and they don't have rates on the site currently could someone please help a tad.. I was wondering for staying at the "lodge" vs a cabin what the nightly rates are. A rough ball park would be great. Also if I book like a week in the lodge do they throw in like a breakfast or not. Are guides separate to book or do you do that when you make your reservation out there??? What are full day rates for a guide, we may have 4 guys so most likely we'll get paired up. I have a few friends that have rented cabins out there but I'd like some input. Any help is appreciated like stay in a cabin and walk to the lodge cause it way cheaper or vice versa.

well its goes many ways....

cabin is comfy for 3...but 4 gets tuff

are you looking at the all-inclusive? that's the best deal IMO.......all-inclusive is around 120 to 140 per person per day!!!!Breakfast buffet in am then a full day guide!!after the days ride you get an Hr of free drinks and snacks then its off to dinner!!!you don't need anything more!!We also Tip daily and A good tip would be 25 to 30 per person!!

They take great care of you at Togwotee on the all-inclusive you will need nothing but good cardio and some stamina.....tired at the end of every day...

For our March trip this year we had 7 guys staying in two cabins. This year they were running a 25% off special most of the winter. Our per person cost for the Package deal the Firecatguy described was $105/person tax included. Considering a guide costs $60/person/day, you couldn't beat the price and do the package. Pat, did you forget that happy hour is actually an hour and a half, from 5 to 6:30? Lodge rooms may be 5 to $10/person less per night. But, lodge rooms have 2 queen beds, so you will have to double up or put a person on a cot, which we have done many times. Lodge rooms are convenient as they are close to the bar and restaurant. The hot tubs are down by the cabins. Either way it's all good.

I was thinking about the all inclusive as it may be the best deal.. The bottom line is I'm trying to put together a budget, so I'll have a reasonable estimate on costs for a 7 day trip or so.. The timeline may have some wiggle room too. We are going on a big family vacation as well next year so I'm trying to budget for them.. We are likely taking my two kids to Disney next winter and I'm going to do the out west thing. There will always be a ton on unknowns but I can put together a reasonable cost estimate for the fixed things I'll be in good shape. All inclusive may be the way to go.

Thanks and any more tid bits will help.

firecatguy,

Are you saying that for 140 ish a night I can get breakfast, a guide, dinner, and a bed? That sounds good to me. I thought I'd be quite a bit more.

Check out some of the others close by as well for comparison. Turpin Meadow Lodge is essentially in the same place. Different atmosphere though.

Attached is a summary of the costs for our March 2010 trip. On the summary you will see our fuel costs for the trip using my Duramax and a friends Super Duty both pulling 4 place enclosed trailers leaving and returning from the Madison, WI area. The lodge costs are for 4 nights lodging and four days on the package (breakfast, happy hour, dinner, guide, bed in cabin), sandwiches for all for the truck ride out and some misc clutching parts. For planning, you need to add tip for your guide, gas for the sled, any lunch items, and your bar bill. Otherwise you should be set.

To add to what the others already have stated, the package deal is the only way to go. (yes this includes breakfast buffet, guide, happy-hour, dinner and 10% off fuel at their gas station) Figure $20-$30/person for the guides depending how they do. For me I'm on vacation, I don't want to do anything except to ride. Some folks will rent the cabins and cook their own meals. No thanks, by the end of the day you're so freak'n beat, the last thing you want to do is cook. Also, bring some provisions for lunches out in the bush. We had lunch meat for sandwiches, snack sticks, clementines, apples and other lunch/snack type items. We stayed in the lodge and it was a bit cheaper than the cabins in March. With this past year's 25% for "low snow" it was a steal to go on the package! Even at the full March rate of $140-ish the package deal can't be beat IMHO.

Ha! I thought I was extremely weird for tracking the costs of our trip!

LOL! Looks like Vern has a heavier foot than Kris!

Muff Pot

Techsledder,

You gotta get a muff pot. Nothing like a hot pastie from the U.P. out in the backcountry to warm your belly after pushing powder all morning! I introduced Carter to Jean Kay's flank steak with Rutabaga pasties this winter. He's a fan after not knowing what a pastie was prior to this year.

Hear ya loud and clear Tech. One thing we figured out, CROCK POT! Put a big ol hunk of meat in the pot in the morning before you head out, and dinner is waiting for you when you get back. Paper plates and some sandwich rolls and your good to go. No fuss, no mess to clean up, done.

I'm a learning. It seems like this will work out. I guess I'd like to stay in the lodge if possible. Now I just need to work out the details.

I'm taking my own sled.

Let us know what you find out as far as rates, etc. We're thinking about heading out there again next year. We went a few winters ago for the first and only time. I should never have gone out there...it gets in your blood! I thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip, and now it will probably be a once every three year trip. Just don't know how to pay for it all!
