Funny, I have never had a bad time at the Snowies, but location is everything, Most guys from the East, tend to stay, and ride on the East side of the range, Key for me, The extra 3 hour drive to stay, and Ride the West side of the Range. Home Base for us has Been Ten Mile Inn, the Hosts, Ken and Kimberly, are the Best. Best Riding for me has been in the Snowy Range, with Cooke City being a close Second, and Togwotee Pass being 3rd. Steamboat Colorado was the Sea & Snow of West Mtn riding for me LOL.

yeap I like the snowies been to east and west side we like to go to 10mile for lunch if we are over that way........but I have to admit its a trail riders dream there!!!
And where does Island Park fit in to your likes? Sledding location favorites vary as much as the riders. Togwotee for the shear vastness of it. (Not defending the Tog. Lodge but the area.) Lava mtn. Is a good option and still can ride Togwotee.
nope not the trail but more you can find your way around with the trail sys...I found most do not go more than a half mile from trail if you venture out a little further than that you will find alot great snow.........Tog and cooke are little more well MORE....guess its hard to explane but Wayne gets it.......
you can spend all day pow carving till you hearts content you might even get a little tired of it there after 3 or 4 days.......Tog takes a little more to get into places a hill climb maybe a sidehill threw a valley.........
I guess the best way to explain is....snowies I did not have to use my skill level to its potential at Tog you better be on your game or things can go south fast........

Oh! Ya! Dropping into Dry lake and sidehilling for miles to get out, love it!!!! Love riding with Carter, learned he is human (lol) and a wealth of knowledge if your willing to listen.

I have stayed at Lava Mtn. In the big house a few years back. Food was fantastic. It is a good deal if you have 10 guys. Only down side I can come up with is you have a short walk up to the lodge, big deal. Also you have a little ditch riding either north towards Brooks or south to get to the trail head to get you out to the good stuff, another so what item. So as a whole Lava works fine for me. Never an issue with staff there. They go all out for you. Gas, food, beer, beds all on site, what else you need. Well snow is good.
Good to know. In the past it was ditch bang your way to Brookes Lake Rd. (still not a bad route). Feb. trip to Lava would be a very good trip to do!Last season in March they had a trail going north east out of the lodge and into the woods and the snow was fine....plus, way less, hardly any ditch to ride.
Great staff, great accommodations, and superior location.
We will be visiting again in February with a Semi load of Flatlanders.
