Even though we didn't get the heavy snow that areas to the west, and northwest of us got...the trails look pretty good...we received some sleet, freezing rain and snow (about 2 inches in the Nokomis area)...it helped to freshen things up after the heavy traffic from last weekend...and now we have some lube out on the lakes (was pretty rough and bare on Nokomis last weekend.)....there is still a little snirt in the high traffic areas in and around Lake Nokomis...but once you get out and way from there it's pretty nice...the area clubs have been out and are grooming...Harrison Hills to the east is in good to very good condition.

One problem area is the 8 trail between Gordo's garage, and trail 10, it is temporarily closed due to Johnson Creek opening up...with colder weather we are hoping it will refreeze, and we can re open that section. Nokomis, and Lake Alice are marked....and are rough in spots, and there is a little slush (but not bad)....there are many lakes in the northwoods that are not marked...if they haven't marked them....stay off them, unless you know the lake well....many areas north, and northwest of us, have double to triple the snow, so their ice didn't set up as well as this area did.

The further north and northwest that you head from Nokomis, the better the trails get as there is more snow.....The cutoff from the last two storms is noticeable....for example...the prentice/ brantwood area received around 2 to 3 inches of snow from the last storm, but 15 miles up the road they got 6-9 inches, and it only gets deeper as you head west and northwest from Phillips....same thing in Minocqua....couple of inches there, but head west towards the Price County line, they had closer to 6 inches...and of course there is more snow in the Lake Superior snow belt. I rode Lake Minocqua last weekend...it was not marked as of Sunday..don't know if it's marked now...but if it's not marked and you don't know where u are going stay off it.

overall...it's decent out there.....better to the north and west of my area...but there's still some good riding to be had throughout the area... enjoy it.

Great report as usual attakman! We rode the areas to the north and west of Nokomis and the trails are really good especially for this time of year!

Hey Attakman - any thoughts of the willow area? Was thinking of heading there and going to the west of the flowage this weekend. Always love your reports!

Yes...looking good out that way....a few rough areas, but they have been grooming regularly, and when they do, it's really good.
