We didn't get the expected snowfall earlier this week, however we did get 1-2 inches across the area with an 1/8 to 1/4 inch of ice from freezing rain, and it's been cold at night (4 above this morning)...that little bit of ice, and snow has helped the high traffic areas a bit.. the railroad grades (Hiawatha, Bearskin, the 17 trail)really took a beating last week..they are improved, but I would still list them as fair (with some good spots, and some bad spots)...the wooded trails however are really good....the clubs have been out and grooming, and where they have groomed, are flat and white....once you get away from the high traffic areas, its really nice out there....AND we are under a winter weather advisory for tonight with a possible 2-3 inches of snow, plus a bit of freezing rain..if we get the expected snowfall, the railroad grades will be vastly improved, and we shouldn't have as many bare parking lots or roads that you have to ride....the little bit of snow we got earlier this week, really helped a lot in that area.
I would definitely get out and ride if you can...expecting 30s next week...there's lots of snow in the woods, but this time of the year temps in the 30s can deteriorate high traffic areas in towns, especially the railroad grades quickly. The trails north and west of tomahawk are again the best of the area right now...the 10 corridor, and trails north of the willow towards pike lake are excellent right now. As usual, it's thinner in the pine forested areas, and the corners are very icy in spots, so watch your speed.
