i was unable to make it up this past weekend because of work. I am heading up this weekend with the whole family. I am reading some lakes are starting to be marked. How is Lake Mohawksin looking?

Yes..Mohawksin is marked, as is the Spirit...a decision on Nokomis (it's looking better though) will be made this week....the cold weather really helped (5 below zero sunday morning)....as per the course, trails were a bit rough during the day over the weekend with heavy traffic....but we found beautiful, freshly groomed trails every morning....really was some nice riding this weekend. Some of the swamps and wet trouble areas are getting better too...keep in mind there is still some slush on area lakes (if you get off the beaten path), and there are still a few water holes, in the wet areas...so ride with caution...otherwise the trails are starting to shape up nicely, AND we have at least a chance of an inch or two of snow each day through wednesday, with the potential for a bigger storm friday (may have to keep our eyes on this one).

Thanks for the update. My brothers cabin is on the Spirit, happy to hear it is marked. With the whole family coming it won't be a big mile weekend but it will be fun for my wife to get a few miles in before she goes to the cabin to read her book.

I just read another report (which is below) indicating Mohawksin is not marked. Attak man do you know if that is correct?

Reporter: jan
Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: up to 20 inches
Date of Report: January 13, 2020
Area Report:
Lincoln county Zone 1 is open with the exception of Corr. 17 south of Hwy 51 Park and Ride and Corr. 19 south of Hwy. 86. Still working on getting these trails opened. Other trails have improved a lot in the last week, ranging from good to very good. Lake Alice and Silver Lake have been marked, but you MUST stay on marked trail.

Lake Mohawksin has NOT been marked yet. STAY OFF LAKE MOHAWKSIN!!

The Spirit has been marked to Mama d’s du Lac. The 86 trail has been groomed from Somo to Mr. Scott’s and to the river near town. And the trail from Boomba south and west to The Garage and Tomahawk Lodge has now been groomed. Swamps may still be rough. Ride right, ride safe!!!!

Oneida county trails are open except LAKES. Lake trails are closed.

TEMPORARY TRAIL CLOSURE – Trail 51 B north of Hwy K and south of Rocky Run Road will be closed Thursday Jan 9 and Fri Jan 10 due to utility work being done in the area. Groomers are out where possible. We have to go around swamps as they are not frozen yet. Trail conditions should be improving daily as we get them packed. In some areas we are starting over again to get trails open.

PLEASE STAY OFF OF THE WATER.

Northwoods Passage marked their end of Mohawksin (Tomahawk Sports Center to Bradley Park, and over to Pfifer Road)..I was just told Knight Owls DID NOT mark from Bradley Park south to the Snapper , and from the snapper to the road on the south end due to concerns.

Post #4 looks like the report that is on the Travel Wisconsin site. What a great asset to the snowmobilers riding in our state.
It is great to see more and more clubs posting up to date reports and making it a single source to get all the trail info in one convenient place vs having to seek out several other sites and or Facebook.

EXACTLY - Driving home from Point to the Twin Cities yesterday I was surprised to see grooming and tracks on the trails along much of 29 - hit that site and BAM - now I know why! A lot opened up on Friday.....

A person I talked to at the Derby was talking about testing a lake [Three Lakes?? area] said that as the club was drilling holes to see if they could mark the lake, there was 15" of ice in one spot and they went just a few feet [10-12] and they fell through; not all the way but the ice was bad. I don't know of any that are marked around here yet.

I did ride 3 lakes over the weekend and they were not marked. We just keep it at 55 and do not stop no slush and a good beaten path.

Attack man am I correct to assume that they will have Nokomis marked from Bootleggers to the end of the lake just past Fish Trap also.

Wirev does not suprise me at all in Three lakes. The current on some of those lakes are pretty strong and in some spots never freeze completely even on a good year. I was up there two weeks ago and did ride the lakes only when I had to do so to get to the trail to get anywhere and the ice was super sketchy. One lake would be fine the next scary looking and others hit or miss. I took 1 day to ice fish and quickly found out the ice conditions you are detailing here. There would be spots with 10-12" of ice some spots with only 2-3" of good ice and the rest junk and then other spots with open water. I would be very careful out there for sure until the club at least marks the trail. Getting from point A to point B where the trail is typically marked is not a problem as long as you keep your speeds up and follow the beaten path from locals. But keep your eyes open for slushy spots and open water as we encountered bother two weeks ago. I certainly would not ride them at night if not marked and would for sure stay on beaten path. Better yet avoid them all together if you can. I could not based off where I was staying you had to ride at least 1 lake to get to mainland trails.

We just finished marking Lake Nokomis. It’s Marked from Boomba to Fish Trap with the exception of the main lake trail to the Tilted Loon. Please access the loon from the Bearskin. Ride safe

why all the concern with the lake ice?.... is that what you all have to depend on in order to ride where you are?. sounds like a pathetic way to ride to me.

No, but in some areas the lakes are good shortcuts and a nice place to open the throttle without worrying about a deer jumping out in front of you. Some people like riding the same 10 trails and going to the same establishments in the UP over and over all season. That's pathetic to me.

Riding from rhinelander to j and d’s west of Willowis the flowage marked. Looks like a nice short cut, never ridden that way from here. Leaving at 9:30. Long shot but figure some other knucklehead is up early. Happy trails.

Nokomis is relatively shallow...however water has been HIGH the last couple of years...there are river channels, and current...it can be a dangerous lake, if you don't know what you are doing...the ice has improved with the cold weather, and yes...the lake is the easiest way to connect to several different trails...it's nice. (plus there are several eating establishments, and access to gas via the lake.)...don't know why somebody has to say something stupid, and negative about an area they don't even ride...smh
