We had a pleasant surprise sunday ...our one inch of forecasted snow turned into 3 plus inches. Trails were hit hard over the weekend...but held up nicely with the fresh snow. However...the lakes are still not safe, and will not be marked until they are.
(Direct from Northwoods Passage)
Oneida county trails are open except LAKES. Lake trails are closed.
Lincoln County trails north and east of Tomahawk are open. This includes the Hiawatha trail from Tomahawk to Oneida County.

Be careful. With the rain and warm weather there was a lot of water on the trails. The short connector trail (Nest Rd/Quiet Cove Rd) off the Bearskin Trail heading towards The Thirsty Giraffe has been temporarily closed due to an open swamp. The 8E trail heading towards Jenny Lake Rd (8E & Bearskin intersection) is closed also until we can get through the Creek just off Jenny Lake Rd.
Groomers are out there where possible. We have to go around swamps as they are not frozen yet. Trail conditions should be improving daily as we get them packed. In some areas we are starting over again to get trails open..
PLEASE STAY OFF OF THE WATER.

Below is an update from Knight Owls. Lakes are starting to be marked

Jan. 8th.

Lincoln county Zone 1 open with the exception of corr. 17 south of Hwy 51 park and ride. And corr. 19 south of Hwy. 86. Still working on getting these trails opened. Other trails have improved a lot in the last week, ranging from good to very good. Lake Alice and Silver Lake have been marked, but you MUST stay on marked trail.

Lake Mohawksin has NOT been marked yet. STAY OFF. No atv's when temp. is above 28 degrees.

Have a safe ride.

They are NOT marking lakes!!!!!...Silver and Alice are the only two marked at this point...and IMO...they never should have marked alice when they did (you won't catch me out there), and silver lake is a small lake, the crossing is less than 100 yards.

Attak man if the lakes are not marked then there is no way to get to the Fish Trap by sled - correct?

That is correct...the locals do have ditch trails, and have run the sides of the road...the cops are a little more forgiving with the lake not being safe.
