We did receive 2 plus inches of snow since Monday (so far)....and it is lightly snowing as we speak.

I have been hearing from riders who have been out this week...and they said they are finding a mixed bag....but better than they thought...the Harrison trails are good, as are the wooded trails to the north and west of Tomahawk...there are a few thin spots in the heavily travelled areas, and a few icy corners...so be careful...but again the guys are telling me it's better than they thought...Fair condition with some good, and some bad mixed in....again...little by little we have been getting snow this week....if we could just get one good dump...these trails will be awesome.

I will be watching the weather early next week...with that potential for a BIG storm...if we get that...things will improve greatly...keep your fingers crossed!!

Remember your Trail Permit, Tickets are being issued in Lincoln County. There were some unhappy locals last week up in Harrison. I told them $260 wasn't enough it should have been $500.

Road north and west from Lake Nokomis as you stated Kellys fire lane is a little thin but as you get to 8 and head west to buck snort it get significantly better some rocks closer to Buck snort especially on that ridge trail but even in a normal year you find some there, and last weekend absolutely no traffic the Best western might of had 5 vehicle in it. Been snowmobiling this area since 1969 and this was the thinnest I have ever ridden in spots but if you know the area there was plenty of good to get to even 7 from Twin Bay To Prairie rapids To swamp lake Fuzzy was acceptable and if you going to ride a bad trail this is it because of the heavy traffic it take from people coming down the bear skin and branching off to go west I seen it a lot worse even with good snow

Upper 30's and close to 40 on Saturday is gonna put things to bed for a while....I'll never trust those long term "forecasts"..90% of the time that doesn't pan out...We ride Taylor, Price and Onieda trails are far from good but not bad when you consider how the weathers been..the only reason there like that has been the cold weather..without it they won't last long...5-6" would make em nice as the base is good...We won't be riding this weekend, just fishing...Also sounds like Taylor county closed trails due to the warm weather...

Yes...it is supposed to be warmer this weekend...but they backed down from the 40's in the latest forecast, and they are calling for cloudy skies...which is good...no direct sunlight.

We don't need the storm for early next week to totally pound us...the base is there...3-4 inches would make it nice out there...6-10 would make it great for the next 2-3 weeks (depending on the weather)...and anything over 10 inches would set us up good for the next couple of weeks...I hate being a long range weather watcher...it's never accurate..but this season has been a bust so far...several weather pages (even John) seem to think somebody in the Midwest is going to get hit...it's just a matter of where, and who gets it....I hope they are right....hope is all we have at this point....another BUST is gonna drive me to drink!!

I opened the Gate on the 39 Trail today. I still don't know when they are going to open them up south of J. I was going to run the Groomer thru the 39 Trail Saturday from Merrill north to H but there is not enough Snow to risk taking a Swamp Bath and I do not think it would pay until there is more Snow. I packed all my Swamps a couple times now with my Sled.

Has anyone rode the Corridor Trail north of Irma thru that Swamp?

I haven't yet...been busy at work...plus it looked thin...I plan on running it this week...I know sleds have been through there. I have to change my slides (when I get time)...I hopefully will run it this weekend...hope we get that snow Tuesday and Wednesday!!

$260 for not having a trail permit? That's ridiculous. I think you could get caught poaching a bald eagle with a lesser fine. lol

Met my buddy at a bar on the trail the other night and noticed he didn't have a trail pass. I asked him where it was and he said..."right there" pointing to his registration sticker. He had no clue you needed a trail pass.

The trail pass kinda chaps my ***...they could have just raised the registration fee, 30 bucks every two years..not 30 bucks a year...but I guess the Wisconsin dnr doesn't know how to do accounting, nor understand that registration fees should go exclusively to the snowmobile grooming fund...I don't like all these stickers all over my machine...one michigan...one for wisconsin...god forbid I run to Minnesota for the weekend..lol ...can't they come up with something better and more high tech than stickers...like an e chip or something? I don't like it...but it is what it is...snowmobile registrations are down...the members average ages are up, and not many youngsters are joining, and the snowmobile manufacturers continue to build expensive, non family friendly macines...we have to face the facts...unless changes are made our sport will die...we aren't attracting new people, and young families..it's become a rich old man sport...just think back to when we were kids...I ride because my family rode...my dad, my mom...my uncles, my cousins...we all rode...it's not like that anymore...our parents blessed us with this addiction...but it was a different time, and generation....having to buy trail stickers proves my point...cripes I remember riding up into michigan, and not having to have a michigan sticker...it wasn't that long ago.....but that's a whole nother story

The problem with raising the Registration was, if a Person rides from their Cottage to there favorite fishing spot or uses their Sled for hunting why should they pay more. The Trail Pass is only needed on a Trail. What ever is done to get more Money on the Trail will piss somebody off.

South Dakota is the only State I have gone to that doesn't require a Sticker. Your Home State Registration is all they want to see.
