Has there been any talk of reopening the plant in Ontonagon? It's very sad to see any business fail.

This stinks. Tom's save me and my buddies multiple times when we needed parts, service, and even a sled. Sad to hear it's closing.

What a sad day... Jeff saved our week long trip when I had a burn down 5mi into our trip.

First I had ever set foot in the place. We were staying with Rick and Jeni at Mountian View Lodges and Rick suggested Jeff look at it and try to salvage our trip.

They bent over backwards getting things put together in a timely manner and didn't bust our budget on the bill.

I feel sorry for the locals who depend on parts close by and good reliable mechanics.

This IS really sad. Kind of strange though; most of the Polaris dealers and small engine shops around here (S. Mpls Metro -MN) are going like gang busters. It's probably a geographical thing? Maybe it has nothing to do with it..

Well with Smurfitt Stone closing in Ontanogon, along with the assisted living place there, that was about 200 jobs lost. That is a lot of jobs in that small of a town. No jobs, no money, no toys.

Last I heard Lake Gogebic Sports Center was not closing, I just tried calling and their answering machine said nothing about them being closed down.

I really hope they are still in business.

Just to comment on Tom, he helped save a week long trip this year. Sucks all the good guys get the short end of the stick. He rebuilt me nephews shocks on the spot and charged very little to do so. He will be missed.

I think the manufacturers are really going to miss having the little dealers who are located on the trails.

We all need to think about this when we go sled shopping. The cheapest price is not always the best deal. As a consumer we all want the best deal possible however when a dealer cant even make $200 on a sled how can they keep their doors open?

It's easy to say that but unfortunately the almighty dollar wins out most of the time. It's up to the dealer to make you feel comfortable and build a relationship with you so that you feel it's worth spending the extra couple hundred bucks. My dad always told me "your machine is only as good as your dealer". There's truth to that.

I just love it when I show someone my cost on something then they look at me and say "ok how much better can you do?"

Chad66 - Your father was 100% correct when he said "your machine is only as good as your dealer".

I agree that it is important to have a good relationship with your dealer. Had a great thing going with a local Cat dealer for years. He just couldn't sell as many sleds as Cat told he had to, so he told them to take a hike. He still has good service, and is always ready to talk if you just stop for a part or something. I think he did a good job of pleasing customers. I don't know if he was always the best price or not, he was just the best at what he did. He proved that you don't need huge fancy showrooms to be successful, you just need to be able to be good with your customers, and they will come back, and maybe even refer a friend. My families experience with M&M has been the same, keep up the good work.

Chad,

LMAO exactly...the funny thing is they are serious. As you know that is exactly the mentality that helped me make a few choices lately, guess we will se how that works out for everyone in the long run.
