Top Speed on AC 440

A friend of mine who rides is topping out at 60 - 65. Riding 2001 AC 440 3000 miles. We thought for sure it would have a little more spunk. New plugs, clean carb, and a nice can. Is this normal or am I missing something?

I think your close. I had a z440 and it did 70 on a ice packed road going downhill. Take your belt off. Take a magic marker and make a straight line on primary and secondary from top of the clutch to the shaft. Put on belt run it WO and take off belt again and see if the line is gone.

If the line is still there your not getting full engagement. Primary- take out a little weight. Secondary let off some spring tension. If the line is gone and you think there is more throttle. Add a little weigt to the primary and tighten up the secondary. But you should keep a mind where your origianal settings where. If things don't run right after adjustment your spring in the secondary is probably shot and should be replaced. Then check the spring on the primary, should also be replaced. If that is the case set every thing back to original settings with new spring's.

Hope this helps
