Tough day for switch07 family.

Well I was planning on coming up to Greenland to stay by my friends Keith & Sherry while my wife is playing out in Vegas. Yup just me and my buddy Dodge on a road trip. Well the Vet just stopped all of that with the news that poor Dodge has advanced lymph node cancer and only has a few weeks left. Man, talk about a kick in the gut! Dodge is an American Bulldog/Boxer mix and the most loveable loyal dog there is. The Vet recommends that I not travel too far with him as that would cause too much stress on the poor guy. I have lost animals before and as we all know it really hurts. My wife on the other hand is taking this extremely hard, lots of tears so far. I told her to go to Vegas with her mom and sister , (birthday present for her mom) and I would cancel and stay home with Dodge. It's going to be a quiet weekend spoiling my buddy. He will want for nothing the last few weeks he may be with us. This came on so fast without warning, we are still in shock. So friends if you have pets, give them an extra hug today, cause you never know when they will be taken from you, and that goes for your family members also.

So sorry to hear. That is an extremely aggresive cancer. We could almost see the lymph nodes growing.
Are you giving steroids to reduce swelling?
We went through lymphoma with our girl Haley about a year ago. We cancelled our snomobile trip and went to the University of Wisconsin for their CHOP treatment; a 19 week program of chemotherapy. She lead a very active life, so much so you would never know she had cancer. She was doing extremely well, cancer in remission, when suddenly died from congestive heart failure. At least we got another quality 7 months with her. It was a tough week, my wife's mother passed unexpectedly, then Hailey 2 days later.

Sorry to hear this very sad news. PLEASE don't dwell on the fact you are going to loose your buddy, I know how hard this is, been thru it too many times myself.
He might not know what is going on and he doesn't need to see his people suffer too. Dogs are very smart and they know when you are feeling down. I would have done the same thing, my Dobe means more to me than sledding

So sorry to hear the sad news about your little buddy. It amazes me how attached we become to pets. They are family. Our pets are a huge part of our lives. Spoil him.

Snow comes and goes, but your buddy is only in your life for a short time even if he had good health, 10 to 15 years at the most for our beloved dogs, I lost our springer last week and her 1/2 sister 1 year ago to the day. Sit down watch a snowmobile video and let him do and eat what ever he wants, give him lots of hugs and in return you'll get lots of sloppy kisses!

So sorry to hear of your little friends situation. I too was in the same situation one week ago and lost my best friend ever my 15 yr. old Yorkshire terrier he was with me through 2 divorces and many other of life's challenges I will miss him forever. He got sick and was gone within 24 hrs. what a quick end to such a long friendship. Lots of good memories though for sure which I am sure you have also....Better to have had him and enjoyed him then to have never known what it is to have a true non judgemental unconditional Friend...A Dog.

I hate this, every time I read one of these threads, my heart breaks and tears well up, because I know my time will come with my boy. Love'em like today was his last day!

Have a Special Weekend together, Switch. We lost our Yellow Lab last November and you'll know when it's time to let go. Give'm a big hug from your John Dee family.

Sorry to hear about your sick buddy. I too hate reading these threads. We have 3 of 'em running around the house. I hate the thought of losing any of them. When it's time for our best friends though, may they go in peace and without pain.

Had to go away from this one for a while and regroup. We've lost many members of our furry family but we've never had to deal with more than a few days of advance notice. Even that was bad enough. I can't imagine what it is like to have weeks.

If only we didn't get so attached but there is no way to avoid it. They are often our best friends and some days our only friends. Hopefully it will help just a little that you are in many of the JDer's thoughts.

Last weekend I was planning on going up north riding, but ended not going. Friday morning rolled around and I went out to take care of our 2 horses. Upon arriving I noticed my wife's horses wasn't feeling well, was the day before. I called my wife and vet, by the time my wife got there she had passed away. Called the vet and told him never mine as she passed. My wife is devastated about it. She was only 16 years old which isn't to old for a horse. Please enjoy the time that you have with you buddy as it will mean a lot to both of you.
