TOYOTA SNOWMOBILE OUT ON THE TRAIL SUNDAY

Every town is different for sure. PI and MW are the last to get approval that I am aware of. The debate at both of those areas has been lengthy. Maybe thats why you don't see much for traffic. Sort of like Marquette Mi, they don't like snowmobiles, so I never go there. Take a look at your neighbor in Mercer, that town is packed all summer including the bars, restaurants, hotels. To the extent I don't even ride there anymore, especially weekends. They do all have coolers, but picnic baskets, never seen that. They are not allowed on all trails. They are specific to atv, utv traffic, and what dates they are open. They have separate maps for atvs, including width requirements if applicable. I have nothing against the towns that prohibit them, that's their call and I respect it. I will most likely drive through MW this summer, but knowing the amount of folks against them, I will not stop at any of the establishments. Just avoiding potential issues. Maybe in a year or two, but not for this season. I ride many miles each year, and just like snowmobiles you have a few idiots, but for the most part respectable enthusiast who enjoy the outdoors.

Agree with you on Mercer and Iron county, they cater to that crowd and do a good job of it, hats off to them. All towns don’t have to be the same, MW, Mercer, and PI cater to snowmobile crowd, MW has boating in the summer because of the large body of water. Also the bike trails are well used for 3 seasons and connect to most towns up here. It will be interesting to see what happens, Ye Olde Shalleighle and Pea Patch are all in.

Good to know Tim, there are a lot of the same feelings down here in MW. And yes, division as well. I’m more of the thought that instead of all or nothing lay down the expectations ahead of time and then people know where they sit. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of give from either side up here, nobody really wants to talk to each other, just pick sides and complain. For gods sake, go talk to people and see what their issues are, at least try to be a good listener.
Spot on perfect pclark! (y)

I had no preference on the ATV vote in our town. Happen or not, it didn't make any difference to me. What really bothers me is how divided the town has become.

It is just a sad example of how easily angered some people are and how divided we have become.

Myself, I choose not to pick a side in much up there. I have always said, "I don't drive nine hours to argue with people" and I mean it.

You nailed it perfectly Tim! That's on the sad example of easily angered some people are. Everything is a contest, or conflict to them it seems. It doesn't have to be that way, but sadly it is. It's a poor way of life for sure.

I've seen cars and even mini vans stuck in the middle of a trail, apparently from the driver following GPS instructions. But my question is after looking at these pictures, and with those tires, how the heck was that even stuck in the first place?

From the warmer weather it was wet off the edge of the trail

Lotsa trails in the Keweenaw were like that this past weekend

It's funny how people say it's just people who enjoys being in the outdoors but yet most UTV'S I see are fully enclosed like a car. I ended up buying a UTV just because it's another way to get out but ours only has a half windshield and a full windshield for cooler weather. Little did I know when I got it that the main push for routes would be county roads. To me it's not much fun riding the roads in a UTV that's not were they were designed and made to do. They are also pretty loud on the roads if you have tires on for what they are actually intended to do which is be on dirt.

I just sold my UTV. Had it for 10 years and used it for lawn projects. Just did make sense to keep it since I have a tractor.
Mine is 90% used for farming duty's, 10% for the grandkids enjoyment, and so with the dog. ;) I have to say I wouldn't be without it on the farm after having ATV's prior. Nothing fancy, just plain base model mid size Ranger.
