I can assure you logging wasn't a issue with 11south being closed. [11north is north of Wakefield going to the porkies]. As a lifelong resident of Wakefield and a full time logger the logging taking place had no effect on the trail being closed. The logging was being done to the North of the trail and at the closest point the harvest area was a half a mile from the trail. I been trapping that area for over 20yrs and know every square inch between Winchester-Wakefield to Marenisco-Presque Isle. I dont trail ride but I would use the trail if I was running behind on checking my traps or needed to get home in a hurry. The word around town was that the Gogebic Range trail authority was under new leadership last winter and they couldn't get nothing done. A lot of the trails over this way were neglected from what I hear with only the main corridors getting attention. I plan on asking the DNR recreation dept what the deal is if 11s is not open this year. I can see how sledders would like that trail its fun and twisty and not the classic railroad grade that is straight for 20miles.
