Trail 14 Marquette to Big Bay Closed

Yes you can. Have to take trail 8 west to trail 5. Takes you to Big Bay. You can head west on trail 14 to L'Anse from there. It's about 17 miles from Ishpeming to the intersection of trail 8 & 5.

I agree, some tree hugger did not like the so called air pollution so that trail was closed, Marquette is NOT snowmobile friendly, Personally, I do my best to avoid that area & do not support any business's there, Gas stations, Hotels or Restaurants, Just pass by, although I do pass thru the speed limit zone from time to time doing my 280 mile Little Lake loop & always enjoy stopping at Lakenenland Which is just East of Marquette (not in Marquette). Ride far & Ride safe! RP.

Two years ago, the trail used to cross in front of the Best Buy (Brickyard Road). And then it went behind the Lowes Complex, and into the Forestville area. Last year, it shifted downhill to the gas station. From there, you crossed the road and traversed equipment storage area from a Contractor (I think). The gear was road repair equipment, maybe MDOT lot - no too sure. But I wonder if the "break in Trail 8 is in that area? The local news (Channel 6) is notorious for not providing even the basic information to a story. I grew up in Marquette, it has never been sled friendly. But then again, I've seen enough BS in other locations where I can't blame them. As it is, every year the Police have to corral someone that decided they could ride right into down town.

Need to get with the club, and find out what the issue is that closed the trail. And is it going to be resolved? This is the first post I've seen on trail 14 being cut off, or a section of it closed. If the tree hugger did not like the pollution, or whatever, why did they let the trail though in the first place??? Maybe more to this??? Most of these type trail closings are the result of people not staying on the marked trail. Trail 14 was a awesome ride. I do agree the Marquette traffic is,and always was a problem. They're not real snowmobile friendly for sure.

This cuts the head off the snake of one of the best trails in the UPPER Peninsula. This will affect traffic to Big Bay for sure. We try to ride this trail when we could including last year. Going to miss it unless they figure a reroute. Not much use for a 32 mile dead end trail. Maybe the snowmobile friendlies in the area will stake out a ditch bang reroute like in other areas.

Marquette certainely is not friendly to us snowmobilers. But they'll roll out the red carpet if you're on a snow bike. (The kind you pedal that is.)
The trail 14 closure is a kick in the n@tz! As others have said, one of the best rides around here. There are 3 owners of the land needing access, and one is being uncooperative. As of right now, Big Bay will continue to groom 14 up to Forestville. The issue is hitting Forestville from 8. Our club has a meeting tomorrow night and we should know more then.

its been closed for aboot 2 years now....and we still ride it like it never was....Marquette is a sled unfriendly town...always has been....avoid like the plague....the town has muddled up the bottom of 14 to deter riders and removed signs and all kinds of xrap....marquettes chamber of commerce told channel 6 to put this out there to deter most people....I don't know if its a local tiff between bigbay and marquart which i suspect is the case....or just marquettes leaders who are greenies...heres what ya do....take TRAIL #5 MOOSE COUNTRY TRAIL north to 14....go to town and have food and gas...then go down 14 to Marquette you follow tracks towards end and you will see where everyone goes...if its blocked in anyway...you go back to a spot where it crosses 510....look for GGA called the red road....take that east and it will cross trail 5 out dare in da wildness...take that south again to civilization....trail 14 crosses 510 aboot 3 times and can be confusing on which way to take road to next cross over but mainly DO NOT FOLLOW SIGNS....follow compass instead as there are directionally challenged sign putter uppers up there...unless that's part of the whole bigbay up shove Marquette double shove up each other they gots going on now.....my 2 c....tom/joe if u read this or bigbay groomers.....don't kill me for the sign thing....LOL....just put which way it ACTUALLY is to the town....not the direction you need to continue on the trail towards town.....many do not live there and for what you take for granted...we don't know....but...I am taking a PERMANENT BLACK MARKER with me to show noobs the way...don't be hatin the messenger...I bring gifts and people bearing gifts and money to spend o wise ones.......your faithful boondocker....JOHNNY LARUE

Please report back on this issue. Hopeful your club can get this resolved so as not to lose another trail. Trail 14 is one of the most scenic trails to be had. Good luck!!!!!!!!

is the NTN using privately raised money to groom non-motorized trails for snowbiking what we consider the red carpet?

ah I see joe cram and the boys are at it....it will be open...trust me

and whoever said that twisty azz trail 14 was good.....NOT...trail 14 thru the swampy area and rocks with 10,000 turns....IS NOT FUN.....in anyway....sure wish it would get straighten a tad since most newbies are well worn out when they arrive due to this (losing valuable customers joe)...and many say....I wont be back that way for a while...trail 5 is twisty enough and perfect mix of twists and straights....not sure why we needed a twistier one....the joke is this

they went to the old folks home to draw trail 14 on the map...they picked out old homer and gave him a magic marker and said draw a new trail....only they didn't realize....ol HOMEY SPUN had parkinsons shakes.....and worse than Alabama shakes too.......ROTFLMAO

why can't they give the land owners a break on their taxes if they let the trail come through their land? It would make them think twice about closing a trail, I would think...
