Wasn't there new bridges and other money and effort put into that trail a few years ago?? And now it's closed baraga to chassel? it sure would be nice to have a dependable trail again from Baraga to Houghton. it would really take alot of pressure off of trail 3

Yes, a lot of work has been put into the trail between Baraga and Chassell over the past few years. Which is why it has been so confusing to me why the trail has been closed the past two years (I've been out of the loop on things though). However, yesterday evening I happened to be attached on an email mentioning two things:

1) There is a bridge under design / construction somewhere between Baraga and Chassell that should resolve that connectivity by next winter.

2) (Not to get our hopes up) but it sounds like there are ongoing, active discussions between DNR, the two local snowmobile clubs, landowners, businesses, and other interested parties regarding the re-installation of a trail between Chassell and the Bill Nicholas. I gleam that the discussions are preliminary, but hopefully a step in the right direction. Mention in the email that portions of the state's easement funding could very well be directed towards this, similarly to what was recently announced in other parts of the west UP.

That would be fantastic, we rode from Copper Harbor to the casino in Baraga last week. These trails would make that ride a lot shorter and take pressure off other trails. Hopefully all parties can come to an agreement.

On another note, from Baraga to Chassell was shut down last year because the swamps were way too wet, that makes a lot of sense now that they are saying it’s closed because of the bridge, I assume the bridge is for avoiding a certain area of the swamp !
