? TRAIL CONDITIONS ? - TWIN LAKES TRIP JAN 13 - 17

TWIN LAKES TRIP JAN 13-17

Looking to go on a trip to the Keweenaw with 3 of my buddies Monday Jan 13 - Friday Jan 17th

Staying in the Twin Lakes area

With the recent cold snap, I'm hoping the wet areas are frozen and hoping for more snow

Any REAL updates on trail conditions ??

The Polaris ap ride reports are saying low snow towards Copper Harbor & Ontonagon

**********************************************************************************************************************************************

With the dismal outlook as of late, might be heading out West next month

Kraven 700 I think it will be more than just rideable and also good idea going during the week. I don't know where you live but looking at the forecast and where more snow has fallen before warm up you would probably have better trail conditions by Seney Munising area. Looks like they may get some decent lake snows this week.

Such a cool video, grooming or even going for a ride along is such a great experience. Thanks for for the video!

You would have much better conditions in Munising and to the east/northeast of there.

Twin Lakes has great snow, but north of Calumet is almost unrideable and same with Ontonogan area, so you’d be pretty locked into riding trail 3 unfortunately. South boundary rd up to the porkies is alright as well, but Bergland is super thin.

I have a buddy who lives in Watersmeet. Late last week (I believe it was Thursday) he had to trailer from Watersmeet to South Range. Headed north from there and got to about Phoenix and said he ran out of snow and turned around.

Yep, lots of misinformation about conditions in the WUP on bookface… few sources with large followings making people believe that because 1 town got X amount of snow, the entire WUP & Kee are good to go. There’s definitely people still stuck trying to ride out the conditions, but with how good things are on the east side I just don’t understand why (unless you’re coming from MN or far northern WI)

THANKS EVERYONE for the info

What areas/trails were good near Munising, and what areas should we stay away from ??

Polaris ap trail reports aren't all the great for that area (possibly from the weekend, we only ride during the week)

Usually I'm not a fan of the eastern UP, but do you think we can back pack it out of Twin Lakes heading east through Lanse or Michigamme and towards Munising ? - There aren't any trail reports for those areas

We usually ride out of St. Germain up to Copper, LOC etc, and back 4 days taking our time, 725-750 mile trips

Either way we have to start in St Germain, pick up my buddy's 2024 Ski-Doo with 1 mile on it, take it to trackside for some recall, then head out from there.

I knew the Western UP wasn't that good based on trail reports, but I've got 2 newbies I'm taking with to show them around

Day 1: I thought I'd be able to get to the large Loop through the Porkies from Twin lakes and back (usually 165 miles +/-)

Day 2: Ride from Twin lakes past Calumet to Eagle River and back

Day 3: Ride towards Bond Falls, then head east and loop around past Rosseau Bar and back to Twin Lakes

INDY - Or I may cancel, and come pick you up on the way out West for the week where there's plenty of snow

There was more traffic in that area than they may have ever seen in history. Check out my EUP ride report in MISC topic. The trails got hit hard Friday and Saturday but the groomers got them all fixed up by Sunday. If riding mid week it’ll be great. Basically if you stay north of M28 anywhere between Munising and Sault Ste. Marie you’ll find decent snow. West of Munising (Marquette to Lanse/Baraga) is VERY thin.
