Trail Questions for Western U.P.

I thought these were all great questions and I felt the conversation needed it's own topic header

I have been the Secretary for MI-TRALE since 2010 and Bear (Mike) is the Trail Manager so we are very involved and attend many many meetings supporting, developing and promoting ORVing so I was glad I could answer these questions.

If I can't answer a question I sure know where I can get the answer

can u now get from berg land to hurley

No not yet, you can't legally get out of Bergland to the west. But MI-TRALE and WUPTA are working on that connection. Lots of Private land and highway right of way to deal with.

I would think the Western UP would benefit greatly from the ORV business if riders from Hurley could get to Bergland thus opening the door to White Pine and Rockland and beyond......We also need to get White Pine to Silver City legal so riders can get to dey big lake eyh! Since the road in Silver City is legal for ORV's we might as well have a way to get to it!

Getting to Silver City may happen sooner than we think, MI-TRALE is working very hard with MDOT and the SB50 bill (highway right of way bill) which would allow that connection. It might actually happen this year if we're lucky. Getting riders from Hurley into Bergland is one of those connections that makes all of us crazy, it's on the must do list. We'll have the connection from the east into Bergland this year (hoping this spring) which will be awesome for Bergland. I'm pretty sure there going to make the camping park open to ORV's too.

Awesome news!

What about if ur staying on trail 2 thru marinesco to wakefield

Sad to say there is private property in between Marenisco and Wakefield and a highway right of way issue preventing legal ORV riding on the stretch of 2

As far as getting into Bergland from the East I always take the R.R. trestles (good fishing) into town. Is this the approved route?

Yup that will be the approved route, there needs to be a barricade between the tracks in town that are still active (so they say) and the trail, this is supposed to happen as soon as weather permits

Mrs. Runningbear, Do you know if HWY M64 in the Lake Gogebic Area is up for consideration in allowing ORV's to Run
the shoulder destination trail?

THANKS Todd

It is Todd! It is on the list of proposed Highway Right of Way areas that MI-TRALE has presented to MDOT for consideration if the SB50 bill passes. We need this bill to pass for any of Highway Right of Way to happen. Even after is passed it will have to be proven to be safe. We (mi-trale) will be attending a meeting next week in Escanaba with MDOT about these areas.
