Here it is in a nut shell. ...Good to very good in most areas...we put on 130 miles today, and I was surprised how good it was.
Lake Tom to mcnaughton was excellent as was sugar camp (and the hodag trails we were on)...it was just a bit thin in the thick pine forested areas...otherwise it was flat and fast...st Germain trails were the not as good...more snirty especially east of town...and icy in the corners, but not horrible by any means...heading towards minocqua, the trails got better, and whiter....even the 17 rail road grade from lake Tom to lac du flambeau was good...my riding partners came up from tomahawk, and said north of nokomis the trails are really good including the bearskin.....we were surprised how good things are...so many negative reports on here, that simply aren't true....that being said..its eagle river weekend...so trails are gonna get hammered...and it's gonna be warm with temps in the mid 30s...so conditions will vary...but if you can get up here and ride in the next day or two..do it....it was damn nice out there today. Unfortunately I had had a problem with my phone, so no pictures today (sorry)....im heading back out tomorrow...its too nice not to...dont believe all the skeptics...st Germain was the only bummer today...everything else was very good.
Btw the header should read sugar camp...not sugar cane (can't edit it...stupid auto correct...i didn't catch it..lol)

Good to hear. A few of us coming up to Minocqua on Friday for the weekend. Probably ride north and west from there. This will be my first trip up this season. Hoping for at least cloudy skies due to the forecasted temps and that we can ride right from the Beacons. If not, I guess trailering up from there. I just have to get out for a ride before I go nuts.

Thanks for the report Attak Man - what town to the south would be the soonest you could drop and ride to the north and west? Trying to find a "day ride" option for Friday.

I would start north of Tomahawk, and ride either to the east towards Sugar Camp, or go west and north of Minocqua (stay away from the high traffic areas, and you should be alright)...The railroad grades were quite good surprisingly.

We usually leave from beacons and come off the east end of the lake. From there up to Big Arb gets beat up. But from big arb (Slo’s) you have lots of good options to stay off the roads and in the woods.
I’d prolly ride down to Lake Tom then go south and west thru willow flowage if it’s good like Attak says. Otherwise figure out which one of the trails going west from Hazelhurst (10a?maybe) isn’t on a road that gets burnt up. Get to squirrel or pike lake and go north to turtle flowage. I’m pretty sure you need to go south of Minocqua before you head west or you’ll be on plowed roads. I think we usually cross 51 at the Watering Hole (great fajitas). There are several trails that go west from there, but I think there’s only one or two that are trails and not plowed roads.
