Trail Sticker ?

Was up to UP (Gogebic Area) a few weeks ago.
My Trail sticker removed it self while riding.
I still have my proof of purchase.... Can i get another one from that, or if I do get stopped, will that be sufficient to keep from getting a ticket?

If I HAVE to buy another, i will... But i bring anywhere from 2-4 sleds up every year, and all of them get stickers.... and replacing even 1 cuts into sledding budgets.

I have been able to get a replacement in the past, but it required a visit to the DNR office. They actually charged me for a second and then sent a refund check in the mail a short time later.

Must have been an on site printed trail permit, they definitely don't adhere as well as the State issued permits. In fact, the site printed one is easily removed without voiding and as such, are often stolen. If you do in fact have proof of purchase the DNR office should be able to replace it for a small fee.-Mezz

I don't know what the DNR will do for ya, but I always buy the pre-printed ones, and clean the windshield with alcohol first. If it's really cold, I will hold my hands on it for a few minutes after installing (one hand on each side). They are very difficult to remove after that, and will never fall off.

Whether they will let you go on the receipt...that's tough to say. I think it will depend on the warden.

That's not always practical. If I'm riding across the border and buying one when I get there, I'm not going to have a blow dryer and a place to plug it in. But warming it with my hands works well enough. They don't come off afterwards. If it's way below zero, sometimes I'll just put it in my pocket, and install it when I get home. I think most wardens would be understanding in that situation.

Why do these things always have to degenerate into nonsense?

I'll call the DNR or stop and talk with some one in the event I go back to michigan this year.

more details...

This sticker was the pre printed one from the DNR. Bought it at Timbers resort when checking in.
I've never had an issue with a sticker not staying on before.
The sled was NEW and it was warm out (30 ish degrees).
The windshield is blacked out with a rough exterior. No sticker is going to stick to it.
I tried the top of the plastics below the windshield. It seemed to stay.
First ride. It was gone.

If i need to buy another, I'll do it.

As for the blowdyer suggestion...

1) Do you really pack one with you (Seriously, just asking).
2) Rental cabins that have these stocked? I'll bet the list is short...

JMO but the receipt doesn't link the sticker to a particular sled so I think you are SOL on this one.

Believe it or not, I don't think the DNR thinks people are that hard up to go through all of the effort to save $48 by scamming them. If you contact the DNR with a receipt and an honest story, they will help you out.

Yur optimism is impressive for an IL toll road enabler.

LOL. In this state, you have to choose your battles. I-90 gets me toward the northwoods, and I-94 gets me the east side of Wisconsin and the UP without wasting gas and my time just to make a statement.

The trail permit is registered to the individual, (name, address, driver license number), not the sled. If you have a receipt, they should replace it for a small fee. Like blkhwkbob said, who is going to try to scam the DNR for $48. It's easier for that type to steal one.-Mezz

nice speculation....so how many times a year ya figure will they do this for you?....LOL....IN BOLD....do you honestly think the state of MI looks at it this way????
I can't even find a FAQ section on the MIDNR website where this question could be answered and this kind of thing happens all the time.

IT HAPPENED TO ME. I was in Florence, Wi and my Michigan sticker "vanished" overnight at the hotel. On my next trip, I stopped at the DNR station in Escanaba and pleaded my case. They sold me a replacement sticker on the spot and took down my info. A few weeks later a refund check came in the mail. FACT.
