Trail Sticker ?

IT HAPPENED TO ME. I was in Florence, Wi and my Michigan sticker "vanished" overnight at the hotel. On my next trip, I stopped at the DNR station in Escanaba and pleaded my case. They sold me a replacement sticker on the spot and took down my info. A few weeks later a refund check came in the mail. FACT.

That is a shocker!

Why do these things always have to degenerate into nonsense?

I'll call the DNR or stop and talk with some one in the event I go back to michigan this year.

more details...

This sticker was the pre printed one from the DNR. Bought it at Timbers resort when checking in.
I've never had an issue with a sticker not staying on before.
The sled was NEW and it was warm out (30 ish degrees).
The windshield is blacked out with a rough exterior. No sticker is going to stick to it.
I tried the top of the plastics below the windshield. It seemed to stay.
First ride. It was gone.

If i need to buy another, I'll do it.

As for the blowdyer suggestion...

1) Do you really pack one with you (Seriously, just asking).
2) Rental cabins that have these stocked? I'll bet the list is short...

yea..sorry about the degenerating..but its the nature of the beast..mostly just fun

and yes..i always carry one..how else would i put on a sticker? i also carry a converter in the truck so i can plug it in if im not in a room yet

and damage inc..i can see a border crossing as the only possible reason to have this trouble..so carry alchohol as mentioned

also whoever is putting it on their windshield in MI, its illegal..has to be on the front above or below the headlight

Not, it's not illegal to put it on your windshield. Display of trail permit sticker
"The trail permit sticker needs to be permanently affixed to the forward half of the snowmobile directly above or below the headlight."

On nearly every sled, the windshield is directly above the headlight. It's perfectly legal to put your trail permit there, which is why 99% of people put them there.

I guess you could switch hoods too and save on permits.

Dan, wondering where you got the info of trail sticker not to be on windshield? Never have I seen that on Mi.gov or DNR site.
At the I-500 you can't get to the track without going by 6-10 LEO's out at all intersections and trail crossings.
I've ALWAYS put my trail sticker on windshield never been stopped because of it. Most sleds I see sticker is on windshield.

Dan, I'd like to know where you got this idea, too. Since there is usually nothing above the headlight except windshield, it's seems strange that they would say it must be above or below the headlight. Also strange that I've been putting them on my windshield for over 20 years (along with nearly every other rider in the state), and none of the wardens have ever said a word about it. Since roughly 99% of people put them there, it seems strange that we haven't heard of this before.

I'm from Michigan, my sticker is on the windshield on both my sled. It's directly above the headlight. I see them on the windshield all the time. I've been stopped and checked. The areas I ride are constantly stopped and checked, lots of noise tickets this year. I've never heard of any one even questioning it on the windshield before.

From https://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/SnowmobileRegs_268169_7.pdf
The trail permit sticker shall be permanently
affixed and visible on the forward half of
the snowmobile directly above or below
the headlight.

I actually did look it up. The post you quoted contained the exact wording from the MI DNR web site. If it wasn't allowed on the windshield, I'm quite sure it would say so, and it wouldn't say "above the headlight".

I remember the days when windshields weren't the first thing immediately above the headlights.

Just kidding... no I don't.

I use to put mine on the center of the dash nearest the windshield but behind it. I always feared breaking the windshield with that 45 dollar permit on it. Then came the mirror / chrome tinted windshields & had to resort to application to the center of the windshield just above the headlamp as directly below the headlight there were cowl vents. I have never had an issue with it on the windshield by any enforcement, DNR, Sheriff etc... in fact, they preferred to see it there. It just sucks when you break a windshield.-Mezz

It is odd how poor the adhesive is on these $50 stickers. Have to warm up the sticker itself, try to warm up and keep snow off of the surface you are putting it on, rub it down like your life depends on it, and then pray it holds. End of the season it is as easy to peel off as a static cling window decal.
