Wednesday February 1-4:49pm CST

Just got back from a 80 mile ride. Went from Ironwood on Trail 2 to 160 North to Lake Superior. (not bad) As soon as we crossed into Wisconsin on Trail 160 which turns into Wisconsin Trail 3 it was horrible and, no snow through Saxon Harbor all the way almost to the Frontier Bar. Got on Trail 2 to head back to Ironwood to Trail 7 to Trail 6 then back down to Trail 2. Then, Wisconsin Trail 2 got bad from Squeaks Bar all the way to Hurley with dirt in some spots. It is also 40 degrees today. I am holding off on riding until next week when "allegedly" we will get more snow. If you are planning to come up this weekend, you might do well to hold off a week. THe trails could be near destroyed with heavy traffic in next few days if we don't get cold and snow. I even snarled at someone in the store this morning in Ironwood when they said, "It is going to be a beautiful day, enjoy !" I replied, "I would enjoy this day if it was April 1 !!! This is February 1, WE WANT and NEED SNOW !!! (Remember, this trail report is only my opinion and only involves Ironwood to Saxon Harbor to Hurley Not, anywhere else.)

I was wondering how the trails will hold up.This weekend has sun and mid 30s which means 40 plus.If the traffic is bad it could put a hurtin on the trails. When I was coming home yesterday the trails looked like they took a beating.

Saw a couple sledders a few minutes ago at Trackside Pub in North Ironwood. They said Trail 160 was not bad but, Trail 2 East of Ironwood was bad until after Wakefield.

From my experience the last 3 years including this year, we have to count on 1 good month of sledding. The month of January.

I am disappointed so far. I am more mad at the locals who think this is great weather. Well, I am sure these same locals pour thousands of $$$ into bars and restaurants around here in the wintertime.

Low 40s and sun this weekend.I was hoping for one more ride.

I just saw a motorcycle driving down McLeod Avenue in Ironwood !!! (Horrible ) However, I am holding hopes of later next week snow and cold. I am abandoning Ironwood in a couple hours to go to my daughters in Iron Mountain, then Chicago. When I come back Wednesday I hope the weather is "better". Especially, next weekend because 15 people are coming from Chicago to snowmobile. My 3 sleds sit patiently waiting. I am sure Ironwood will see snow again. I just hope the trails are not killed this weekend because alot of people are out sledding as I seen them and, can hear them. (Hurleys lower block was nearly full last night)

How much do you think it will take to get everything good to go?Looks like 4 to 5 of les coming
my Ironwood yard still has deep snow. I am wondering about the trails because of the heavy traffic on them with warm weather and no snow last 2 weeks. So, I would refer this question to be answered by someone with knowledge of similar conditions in past.

I love that loop, unfortunately I have avoided it this year, mostly the concern going though Saxon Harbor. Last time up was after one of the warmups wednesday feb 1st , my wife and I did a loop Wakefield to Bergland, trail 13 to 2 over to Bents camp for lunch into land of lakes, Watersmeet back to Wakefield.
The experience was unenjoyable the trails were not recently groomed except 13 by the Root Cellar. The next day we skiied Blackjack, friday we went to Hurley,
trail 15 to 8a into Mercer had lunch, the sun was our big time, took trail 8 back to 17 into Hurley back. We were done by 2:15 and it was very warm.
We left that afternoon back to Chicago. Next trip Presidents weekend i expect to ski with my sister family.

All in all we have been up 4 times since jan 2th, it's been a bust over MLK's weekend on saturday I avoided a head on guy was in my lane on a corner, I went off the trail caught a 4x4 forest post with my right ski turned sled over I landed on my right elbow, it's been hurting ever since. Nothing broken. i had on a Tex Vest.

I'm hoping for some riding in March something that I haven't seen the last two winters.
