Trailer Refurbishing

Fellow John Dee'ers

I am going to restore my boat trailer. It's a 1991 Heritage trailer for my 19 ft Mariah boat. It's currently painted yellow, but has never been repainted. Needless to say it's pretty rusty, but still does work well.

I want to strip the paint, prime it and repaint it black. Does anyone have any recommendations for fast and effcient paint stripping. I was thinking of picking up a rotary wire brush for my 18 volt drill.
If you have any ideas or experience in this let me know.

Thanks and two hands on the bars!

repaint

short of sand blasting don't waist your time , just get a brush and have at it

wire wheel on an angle grinder. strips fresh powdercoat off with ease, may take a tad longer than sandblasting but does the same job with less mess.

Check around andjust have it sandblasted. I had a local guy sand blast and spray prime my boat trailer for pretty cheap. I thought it would be expensive and was very surprised. Make sure you take the bunks, lights, etc off yourself. They tend to charge more if they have to screw around removing that stuff.
