Just booked a place in Ironwood Michigan for the 3rd weekend in January. It will be my first time going up there. Any good suggestions on what trails to hit in that area . Also how are the trails in that area?

Thanks for any info.

Pretty solid place to base out of.Tight twisties and straight hitters.Whatever you prefer. The snow should be great at that time of the year.Trail 17 runs down to Mercer thats only run if needed its usually washed out bad.(heavy traffic) you can hit some good stuff on the other side of the Gile flowage also south of the flowage.I like going south and west from Hurley.Trail 6,7,160 loop from saxon harbor to trail 2 all good trails.

Why go south when you will hit more snow going north? I would hit Lake in the Clouds, Octonogon, Gogebic. Go up to Greenland and hit trail 13...best trail on Earth.

I would head into the UP too. Chances of having better snow are much better! Be sure to hit trail 102 out of Bergland and 11 on the way up to Lake of the Clouds, a couple of the best trails up there. As amazza76 says, the trail 13 loop from Greenland to Twin Lakes is as good as it gets, it's like 36 miles long, but you'll be around it in no time. Trail 11 mentioned above isn't bad either as shown below. You will have a great time!

The UP is a blast. All kinds of riding. I prefer to stay in Wakefield which is past Ironwood just a bit. It gets you past the heavy traffic and the cab company will bring you anywhere you want if you decided to toss a few back and head into hurley for the scenery!

Ew as the stomach churns.

head up trail 7/77 to saxon harbor, stop in Saxon Harbor for a burger (mom and pop place, east of town, on trail), then back across trail 100 to bessimer, then north on 102/11 to Lake of Clouds.....

when riding in the Hurley area I prefer to ride the trails to the west and south. Sort of a box between Hurley, Mercer, Island Lake (Bear Trap for a burger) and whatever is due north from there. Great trails. If I am going to hit Gogebic etc - which is all great trails - I stay out that way. If you do go east be sure to hit the south boundry trail - I think you catch it out of Wakefield. The only drag about heading that way is there is only one trail back and you will take a pounding getting home.

If the snow is thin then yes go east and North, but be sure to enjoy the Hurley area if there is snow - which there almost always is!
