Want to get a topper for my 2011 chev and I've noticed the 99-07 ones are much cheaper and more readily available. Are they the same? IMG_20151225_141958.jpg

I think it has to do with how many used ones available. Who would buy new for an old truck considering that older truck has mileage in the 6 figures. Or it could be the topper folks figure if you spend $30,000 to $55,000 for a "new" truck then your good for a bit more. (Just my thoughts).

lol my wife gave me crap for yrs about buying new trucks and always slapping on my old alloy pos topper . then I finely kicked out the bucks for a new glass topper in 06 and hated everything about it except how it looked. now I don't even use one. I would if I got a light weight alloy one again. U cant just pull a glass one off in 5min and lean on the side of the garage by your self u cant just do a quick release of the c channel vice grips holding the alloy one on ghetto style to fit stuff just a tad to tall to fit in then clamp back down . I am a straight utilitarian when it comes to trucks. I for the life of me can not understand why u would put a lift kit in one and make it a even bigger PITA to get stuff in the bed and much steeper to drive toys in the back . that is the #1 reason I keep getting 1/2 tons they are lower and I can still sort of grab stuff in the bed but it gets worse every few yrs with the taller bed rails . guess a white rape van may have to be the next rig .

lol on the van but but the van is my pick- a used e-150 ford conversion van is 1/2 the price of a used pick-up with the same v-8 - you can haul 7 in comfort or take out the seats, lay down a 4x10 sheet of plywood and you have 10 feet cargo space -not 5 - I have hauled sleds atvs, you name it-in the van! -one year we hauled everything for a two bedroom apt in the van to the UP and 6 atvs with a four place trailer. no problems.- rear wheel drive but with blizzacks not a problem- vans are not cool but I am past that stage and still need a family van sometimes, also use as a camper but I won't get into that!

my next work truck may be a sprinter

Look at the door hinges on the older Sprinters. They rust like crazy. I am considering going back to vans for work trucks. I can send tools in the side and skid load thru the back. This 2013 3/4 ton GMC crew cab shortbox sits up to high for my old bones. Momma got it for her grocery getter with a tonneau cover.

yeah the older sprinters are deff rust buckets in my parts also. but the ones I have talked with guys about on loading docks etc etc a lot have over 300k with relatively low maintenance cost and pulling 19mpg.
the guys who wrapped them bumper to bumper from new were way a head of the ball. most of them still looking good cant feel rust under wrap in the normal spots and have seen a few that had been unwrapped and had very little rust except areas that rusted from behind like rockers.
still can not understand why the oem don't build a awd 3/4ton van . the gmc 1/2 ton awd are junk

2011 is not the same as the 2006 and older. Your box is only 5 1/2' long and tapperd 3"front to back.
The truck in the pic is an extended cab and has a 6 1/2 ft box standard, 8 ft optional. The 1500 crew cabs are the only ones with the smaller length box.

Yes you are right,it was a crew cab that I put a top on. Sorry for the misinformation i should have looked at the pic closer.

I am in line for a full size 3/4 ton awd van. Been in line awhile. Switched to pickups because most new homes have no driveways in yet when I show up and our tile vans would sinks like a rock.
