Twin Lakes/Mass area ditchbangers

Locals use them to get around and save time, rather than taking the long way to meet up or the hassle of loading and unloading and loading the trailer. Thats what we do around here anyhow.

I noticed this while driving back to Mass from the Ride In dinner. It seemed like everyone rode the ditch from Twin to Greenland. I wondered the same thing because they passed a lot of untouched logging and seasonal roads.

I know in the central Yoop neck of the woods I ride there are two places I do the shoulder. One is on an M road and the other a well travelled wide Co. Rd. The M is to respect and pass around an area of private property (riding the side of that one stinks) but there is a huge swamp area if you don't take the road. The reward is a fun powerline that sees VERY little, if any, traffic. The other option would be to go around someones gate and then navigating the area would be easy but I don't roll that way. The other can actually be fun as it has some good sidehilling and more fun than the groomed trail that runs near it. Only doing that as a mode of transportation to somewhere else as UPBrett said.

Now how could you of noticed that? That was a white knuckle ride for me back. lol Oh! thats right you wasn't driving! lol. Okay folks, I have to admit Cuzz and I banged ditches for less than a 1/4 mile this past friday. We are not proud of it. but it got us to the good stuff without tresspassing.

Do any of you ever catch yourself looking at every little side road and 2 track you see while driving down any road? Do you imagine what kind of powpow might be down that road? Do you wonder where it leads to? Do you catch yourself doing it all year long? If you answered yes then you are one sick puppy just like me! LOL!

Yes, I do, but, my next thought is this, how do I get to it from the other side? :) Not from the road side.

I thought I was the only person so ate up up as to do that kind of stuff. Serious rubber necking. Do it on sled too when I have to get to point B without the time to investigate every thing. One of these days I'm going to run off the road or trail straining to check everything out.

I wanted to be sickpuppy1 but it was taken! On the 11 hr. journey home from Mass City I checked every little anything that looked rideable out as I passed it. I do it all summer too!

Every time I drive to and back from the UP I just want to pull over on the side of the highway and unload the sleds and ride for a couple hours,(not private property), to explore and take in the scenery

We could not resist the pow in the ditch along hwy 70 east of Hayward. Wrote a check to dnr for 200 bucks. Got within 10 feet of road. (beginners behind me would of got stuck) Hoping for a warning but no luck. No more ditch banging for me :(

WTH? With all the trails, and hundreds of logging roads, why screw around riding in the ditch on M26? I don't get it? Is that their idea of off trail? LOL.

Skylar, I think they read the Backcountry riding post and were just trying to not ruin your guys secret riding areas!

ditch bangers were out in full force last night yet again in Twin Lakes, riding standing up with back packs and shovels on the highway in the wrong lane, the lane coming at you! If you can't ditch bang don't do it, stay off the high way, your just going to p--- of the local law enforcement and they'll just issue more tickets... uuummm now that wouldn't be so bad after all.
