I saw that they make a motocycle twist throttle for a snowmobile and ATV. just wondering if anybody has tried this on either?

I did one on my 2000 XC500 & the same cable fit the 2001 XC800, rode that for 3 seasons. 5000miles worth. Myself I like it, had the grip heater also. Friend of mine still has one on his XC600. No more throttle thumb. Can keep a much better grip on the bars. Dont knock till you try it. Why do you think the PRO MX riders have a twist grip? Look at how they ride, all wild & crazy, hanging off. Sleddin is no different. NO mine never FROZE UP.

It might be alright on a trail sled, but years back when we tried them on drag sleds we finally had to outlaw them. We had some very bad experiences with them. I think today a lot of the racing circuits don't allow them.

I had a friend put a twist throttle on his Yamaha Banshee and he smacked a tree within an hr and said the twist throttle was difficult to control, he nearly died.

To Each Their Own

This is one of those topics that generates a lot of opinions. I had one on a Warrior (ATV) for two years and loved it. Not sure I'd have the same opinion on a sled though.

I don't see how this ATV style throttle is any better than what comes with sleds now. Both stretch the thumb out.

I have a twist throttle on an atv and it works fine...you do have to remember what you are driving, and throttle back when needed...but I like it and wonder why they don't put them on sleds...just to get rid of throttle fatigue.

As I get older....I am looking for a foot throttle, myself....somebody want to invent one? Oh, and while your at it....how about a seat that is more like a saddle curved up on the edges so that my fat butt can stay in it without sliding out all the time?

I suspect if someone sitting around unemployed this summer takes these two suggestions and gets whacking on them, they will have them up and running by December and will be able to retire by May....

While we are designing these how about this idea......

I could easily make a foot petal, just see no need to. Now that you say that, I already have a plan in mind! Throttle cable is cheap........ :D

Drove my ATV in the winter quite a bit and never had a problem with it freezing.

I can see it working until you have snow over the handlebars. We start to see problems with the thumb throttle and I figured the twist grip would be worse.

I can not imagine riding an ATV very often with snow that deep.;)
