two stroke warm up

just wondering what the ideal warm up temperature is on a two stroke motor, my sled has the digital readout with engine temp so I am able to watch it go up as the sled warms up but am not sure how warm I need to let it get before it is best to take off, it seems to run about 130 degrees after I have been riding for a bit and that is on a good cold day

Is it a Polaris? Sounds like it. Dont touch the throttle til 85* F on poo's. Dont ride it hard until the thermostat opens, about 120-125*F. The temp will get up 125* and fall back to 115* or something like that. Once it does, let er eat. Yamahas have a light IIRC.

I have been doing this since new with my Polaris, and its as reliable as newer Polaris get. Only burnt down once....lol.

If its an older edge with a liberty motor, give it a few mins. and beat it hard. Those things were bullit proof.

ok, make darn sure your easy on it until the thermostat opens. 130*F is a little cooler than most 900s run IIRC. You musta got a good one.

I always warm it up to around 90 before touching the throttle and take it easy on it for the first 4-5 miles.

I just rebuilt it over the summer with the updated piston kit since polaris originally had issues with the 900's so maybe that is why I am only running around 130

Well, 130*f is a good temp to run at. Ive seen Polaris CFIs run all over the board. 105*-180*F. The ones at 105 seem to always be sluggish, slow, poor mpgs. The 150* and higher seem to blow up alot. If it gets up in the 150* range cuz your passing through a low snow area, its not a big deal, but if its always up there Id try to get it to run cooler. The dummy light comes on at 185* i believe.

I don't have a temp guage, but i start my sled with the choke on half and leave it till the motor starts idling down (about 2 minutes) then take the choke off, let it run for another minute or 2, then run it easy on a jackstand, then take off.

don't have a choke on mine and with the temp gauge just wanted to see if there was a temp that is recomended now that I can actually keep an eye on it

I don't move my sled until I can feel heat in the rear exchanger. Once moving, take er easy for a mile or two.

2x on the heat exchanger but easy for the first 4-5 miles. Also helps loosen the grease in the bearings. I do the same for the 4 strokes. Last two 2 strokes I sold had 16,500 miles (800T) and 23,400 miles (1000T) never opened the motors. I also added oil to the first tank of each trip. (to make sure injector working)
