I'm in the market to buy a flag for my new house but I'm not sure if I should get a nylon one or polyester? I'm assuming a polyester one might last longer? Thanks

I have flown all the above mentioned flags and I can tell you this with 100% honesty. BUY THE CHEAPEST PRICED ONE YOU CAN FIND AS LONG AS IT IS MADE RIGHT HERE IN THE GOOD OLD UNITED STATES!
I fly mine on a 25ft pole and they all wear the same so why pay the big bucks...

Just my 2 cents.

I buy mine at Wal Mart. I don't know the manufacturer but I know it's American made because I remember thinking how creepy it would be if made in China. I don't get the cotton anymore - seemed to have fading issued. I usually have to buy 1 per 2 years - leave mine 24/7 with a deditcated light.

It just would not be right to buy a Made in China US flag

Yeah, agreed.

Now take that a step further and buy other stuff from the USA so your neighbor can eat, buy stuff from YOUR company, and you, in turn can afford to go sledding more.

I have really changed on how I buy stuff. (Not trying to start a war or change the topic here)

Got hooked just the other day buying apple juice for my little ones....on the label it says product of USA, but in tiny blue ink printed on the clear plastic bottle, it said juice concentrates from Argentina and China.... of course without my glasses I missed that til the wife found it when I got home. Took it right back to Kroger...told them I don't "do" Chinese food stuffs...ever. They didn't ask questions...just refunded my money.

I also got hooked once a bit ago stopping at Tim Horton's, and got some lunch for one of the kids....apple juice said product of China. Called Tim Horton corp up, told them I am displease, and the rep said, "we don't buy from china...." and I said , "go out and read your bottles...it says it right on the plastic, in not so conspicuous places."

Listened to an interview this week from the CEO of Mayflower, aka, United Van Lines...who said that Michigan just lost it's number one spot on the States that have the greatest number of people moving AWAY from it...to New Jersey, which now wears that label...Michigan slipped to number two spot. When asked about high numbers of "international moves out of country, by businesses" the CEO said that his company is "accelerating moves from companies setting up shop "over seas"....

So the brain drain is still going on.

Lastly this week has shown how reliant we are on Japanese parts for autos. The number of plants HERE are going to stop production because they don't have parts MADE in Japan to install on locally manufactured Machines. That tells a tale too.......GM included on some trucks, but NOT Ford or Chrysler....content counts.

Might want to be a little more flexible when considering produce. Remember, the demand for produce and juice is year round, the USA growing season is summertime, the growing season in Chile and Argentina is opposite ours. Thus, produce and juice suppliers rely on South America to keep products in stock in the off season. We simply cannot supply fresh fruit domestically in the winter.

If you want total USA orange juice then you need to buy Florida's Natural not from concentrate.

Well, actually DC, we have been TRAINED to think we need fresh apples year around that come from South America, and wherever.

With modern storage processes, we can get locally grown stuff more than you realize IF....you look for it.

Of course there are times you can't...and I understand that, but do you really need fresh apples year around?

Eat what is in season....and I have trained myself to do this, and even eat canned fruits which aren't bad, and your Mom and Dad did it all their lives.

Once in season, you can stay ALL USA, if you want to. hunching once in awhile isn't really bad, but remember that it all counts.

Apple juice, btw is concentrate, can be totally domestically produced and supplied if you look for it. Why is it that they can grow apples, process them, then truck the concentrate to the USA and rehydrate the stuff cheaper than what is grown domestically.....aka, what corners are they cutting??

I love fresh cider, and I am still drinking Michigan cider right now...I freeze it and thaw it out and it is good. In my neck of the woods, I can still get it from the producers too. I also know that the pesticides that are being used on those apples that produce MY cider is very rigidly controlled and I can even find organic if I want to. Can I say that about produce that is grown in China or Chili, or who knows where else?

I drink concord grape juice, cider, Florida's own grapefruit juice...(got more kick to it) and I know where it is grown.

Taking this a step further....I really am NOT fond of potatoes grown in Idaho.... I prefer Michigan potatoes because they have a nice texture that I like...even if there is some blight in them once in awhile. And those taters are far better for fries...just the way it is. I support the local tatter growers, and apple growers and they in turn support me.

I don't need no stinking foreign produce....too expensive much of the time anyway.

Well, if you must know...it was an outright attempt to rob this thread and turn it into something far more controversial....

What....yah got something wrong with apples and orange juice....(not sure I trust anyone who disparages those things....)

I have a big cotton flag and a grocery store. If you got rid of everything in the store not manufactured in the continental US there would be some serious holes. Especially in produce. Right now we are able to have a lot of items year round that even ten years ago would simply not have been possible. A lot of hydro tomatoes come out of the evil republic of Canada. Grapes come from Chile right now. Lettuce and celery and cukes were super expensive a month ago which was a direct result of a large frost in Mexico. And ALL bananas come from Guatamala and Honduras every season of every year. Also everything that comes from overseas is inspected for bugs and pesticides the same way domestic products are inspected. Our food supply is one of the safest in the world - that much is true. The biggest factors driving the food price increases right now are commodity prices and transportation costs. Wheat, sugar, soybeans and cocoa are at or near all time highs. Also most packaging is petroleum related. Every 50 cent increase in diesel fuel triggers a new fuel surcharge. As a Grocer there is very little I can do about any of this except pass on the costs. It is a very low profit percentage based business to begin with. Most of you know all of this but the bar isn't open yet so I will enlighten the rest of you that don't. Also, cotton flags fade the fastest and the wind will wreck cotton before it will wreck polyester, but I just like the way a nice fresh cotton flag looks.

LMAO @ 700 and "How did this go from the Stars and Bars to taters and apples?" and boondocker.

And I hear ya moose (I think I've said that a few times to you today...kinda like I'm sucking up er somethin!??!) Have some good friends of mine that tried to buy American ONLY for 1 year...still have kept a lot of their practices. Some things were just WAY out of their price range (they have 3 kids and are on a tight budget) but they attempted it more to make them aware of how much stuff they purchase that isn't in the US...

And I liked my cotton flag but it got very dirty looking fairly quickly (we fer sure don't live in a place with nice, clean, fresh air!?) - looked kinda disrectful when I would take her down at night. After we decided to fly 24/7, I went ahead and went to the "some sorta blend" flag.

If you bought it at Wal-Mart I would almost bet it's made in China as most stuff in Wal-Mart is.
