I'm not gonna now make this a debate about Wal Mart - but as I stated, I know it was American made. (cuz I can read...)

And I have no issues with Wal Mart. I grew up in a small town where the mom and pops didn't have a lot of the goods we needed. And the one store that DID have it, the guy that ran the store was one heckava jerk.

Wal Mart is the reason some of my friends got scholarships for college. It employed, and I'm sure still DOES employ, a heckafied a lot of people in my small town.

Wal Mart used to only sell American made...it was part of their business philosophy. Wal Mart wasn't the one that decided to close up their manufacturing shop and move it to China.

Again, don't wanna make this about Wal Mart now...and I'm a mom and pop business so I sure understand that as well...but if it weren't for Wal Mart, a few million people would be without jobs.

That's back when Old SAM called the shots....I remember when he would NOT place a store in an area where a kmart was and preferred the smaller towns surrounding the metro areas. One of my friends told me about Walmart, of which I had never even heard of til then. He said they sell a lot of stuff and make Kmart look like a carnival store. Kmart started the Chinese stuff thing....and I bought stuff they produced and thought it was great til it crapped out on me when I needed it. Then I figured it out and stopped buying it, as did everyone else. Kmart is a hazzbeen store now, and walmart walked right past them.

Yeah, I know that bananas come from foreign countries, and lots of other things too, but my point is that we have become TRAINED to buy the stuff, rather than look for seasonal stuff we have available. Well we can untrain ourselves too. If we all look for American flags made here rather than "over there" we can make a difference. It is indifference that is killing us. I found a place to buy blue jeans made in the USA. But when I investigated them, I found that they cost $50 a pair. Guess what....I decided that though I like Blue Jeans, I don't need them, and can buy other material pants that look nice and actually wear better. But cha gotta look for it.

It is more a mind training exercise than anything else. Big stuff I research, and food I take my specks along and read TWICE.....you would be surprised what is being pushed off on you from outside the USA. And no I don't trust other countries to care a hoot about what they are going to export to those rich Americans. Maybe it is perfectly all right to eat it, and maybe someday you will get some hunkus of the bunkas...and never know why.

Me...I'm stick'n with local hunkas of the bunkas....then I can sue the crap out of them, so my GRAND kids can have the easy life!

Sam would only put stores in communities of 18,500 or less when he started his empire.

They at least sold American for as long as they could...maybe a copout...but i don't know.

Who makes anything anymore here in the USA? Not too much...and Wal Mart still tries to buy from American manufacturers when they can.

Moose, I have no idea how old you are...but I don't consider myself to be THAT old and it just ain't like it was when we were kids. But I grew up in a small town and just one example? I had no idea how gawd AWEFUL meat from a grocery store was until I went away to school. It was a small town too...so me and the butcher got to be buds so I knew when to go and get deals?!? :)

good old China mart put the Rubbermaid Company out of business here in Ohio they came in and strong armed them into pricing they didn't want to have so China mart went to bullying them into submission To me thats not the way to do business . They did it to alot more companies to Also ask the over 2,000 or so Rubbermaid families how they feel about China Mart and all the other mom and pop places they have drove under that company is NOT good for the U.S.A period !!!!

Noth'n wrong with that....still works today. Good meats are not easy to come by, and if it weren't for the small grocer, I would very likely be a veggie only person...you know....the kind with a skinny butt, and look embalmed!

Small is good...at least in this aspect. We need to stick together, and grow as a community. Support one another and do the right thing...the rest is easy.

We consumers still rule if we can get our heads out of our butts. We need to be able to put two and two together, and get this figured out....then no matter who sells the flags in your town, only those that are made locally will be stocked on the shelves.

Had a guy who lived down the street that flew his flag upside down when Bush got elected and kept it that way until Obama entered the White House - well, minus the times that we set it right!?!? I don't know if he knew it was us or not!? Probably!

Every time I drive by a WallyWorrld I simply mumble "There is the death of small business in America".

I'm 38 and can count on one hand how many times I've been in that store! What is the point of buying cheap shat 2-3 times over if it is 1/3 cheaper than the good stuff? Problem is now try to find the good stuff!! It is disappearing daily.

I try to buy American when I can, except for the BRP products in the carriage house. Do what you can, its' better than trying to do nothing on this subject.

Support the local guy when feaseable, they won't be there if you don't.

BTW- Best Buy is going the way of the WM theme, cheap stuff. Short term profits are better than longevity in the product????????

I have the Latino American market next door to us, prices are way low on most items. 1.89 for ground chuck, 2.69 for ground sirlion. 4.99 for a new york strip, 5.99 for a t-bone, down here they call a porterhouse t-bones. A box of rice or can of soup is double what I pay at Wallyworld. With the wife working at Walmart, I see both sides of the story. Publix is so expensive, Winn Dixie has a few deals, Penn Dutch has a great meat Dept. I like walking in to the Latino market and ask for the t-bone, he pulls out a 4 ft slab and I tell him cut from the porterhouse side 1 inch thick, and he speaks little to no english. welcome to the USA. But we get the deal done, and I throw it on the Barbee. The best steaks still come from Omaha. Oh ? the flag, Cotton, fly it proud as 80% of my neighbors are from Ontario, got one on the golf cart also. As a former Boy scout, flag ettitique is very big, our armed forces could fill us in on this. And never from China

Flag etiquette is very big to me also. Lights on at night, when flag gets tattered, time for a new one. Turn the old one in to the local American Legion.
Love to see people flying the flag, some just forget to change them out when they get bad.
Have a good summer!

Walmart ran everybody out of business here where i live. we do have a choice to go out of town to shop , kinda of senseless when you only need a couple things. got a small small store ran by the Spanish-prices out of this world.
now all them small business buildings sit empty.
thank you to walmart.
and yes i shop there, kinda hard not to in this area.
did stop by the flags-found none that were made in AMERICA.
now they are being allowed to sell liquor, so figure some of the places that sell out of their business will be next.

I buy nylon, with the weather we have here, I am satisfied with the life I get out of a nylon flag. I have a 35' yard arm flag pole. On the yard arms I fly the NAVY flag on on side (I'm retired NAVY), and on the other yard arm I fly the LZ Lambeau flag. If you fly the flag, replace it once it starts to tatter or the colors fade. Nothing looks worse than tattered or discolored flag.

I havent purchased one yet but it def has to be made in the states. I also plan to hang a fire dept one underneath it. I got about a month until I can move into the new house! I'm starting to get the warm weather itch pretty bad. Ready to get the HD out and get the pool open.

Seeing that this thread is fair game for hijacking....(insert smiley face here)Here's something i've always wondered....Where do the flag burning protesters in the middle east you see on the news buy their flags? I can't go to a local store here and buy a flag from their country....Are the reporters selling flags/matches or what????
