I am planning a UP saddlebag trip for this winter and am looking for some input on the 1st leg of the journey. Does anyone know the best route to take from North Twin Lake (WI) to Marquette, MI? Also what the estimated mileage would be and lodging recommendations around Marquette?

Doo,
We used to do Iron River Mi (SkiBrule) to BIg Bay annually, just NW of Marquette. 180-240 miles depending which way you go. Whatever trail you pick, stay at Thunder bay Inn in Big Bay.
Trail in between Lanse & Big bay is a must...no stops about 60 miles. Get fuel whenever you can. Trail SW of Big bay to Michigamme via the yellow dog river is another must do. From North Twin I'd run up thru Bond falls and hit the grade along M28, then up thru Sturgeon River Gorge to L'Anse...Back thru Crystal falls & Iron River, grade along US 2 & on to landolakes. Both ways its a big trip but fun.
