no apology necessary Lenny, i read all your posts and they are alway very informative. you have your opinion and you usually stick with it but will entertain constructive criticism, some may call you slightly stubborn. its not a bad trait at all. now go out and get riding.

it's all good, were still riding and alive! We've had good debate and some heated debate. Next time your up this way look me up and I'll buy you a brew!

Timo, sorry for being stupid to you. Now, I believe that cover everyone.

The removal of signs was for improved safety and consistence guidance. They say the objective is to provide a safe, family oriented trail system in Mi. They also say the sign reduction will result in less trail clutter.

The article can easily be understood, as it was intended to be understood, for safety reasons. The intent is safety and the result is less clutter,,,big difference. I can see how some cannot get it and think taking away signs is dangerous, that's a reasonable was to see it but if you focus on the intent of safety from studies of other areas and than get positive feedback from those riders who experienced the new system, you end up with a positive note. If you just think the idea is stupid than that's a individuals prerogative based on fear and speculation.

so safer trails = increase in fatal acidents? as you fatal accidents went way up this year? my guess is the one that belive this is working will blame snow etc yet the main goal of sign removal was saftey? seems saftey has gone down....

yes they have and we can see the particular accident. I looked back at previous years and wow, didn't know all this info was out there. Last year there were like 4 people riding rivers or near the lake edge and went through the ice, so much alcohole also,,fricken scary people. Speed and trees are the most factors as far as I can see.

Speed does not make a poor rider as a slow rider does not make a good rider! Respect need to be given by both.

Your right sixball we all must share the trails and do it in a safe way that promotes a positive image of our sport to others.

I commend the DNR and other states for not sitting on their hands and trying to think of ways to make snowmobiling safer, like widening trails or making signage changes etc. I have seen fatalities go down over the decades but their is still more work to be done. I have to believe that SPEED is the largest contributing factor to injury or death so it only makes sense to try and get people to slow down.

What are some other ways we can make snowmobiling safer?

it will be a real shame if you jump right to lack of signs. Have you read the reports? Please do I have. What's even more astonishing, look at the age of the people. My God, what's wrong with this picture?

So Far this season 8 of the 22 deaths were on an actual snowmobile trail! Season started late but still riding. For sure longer than 2 previous seasons

Last season 7 of the 16 were on snowmobile trails. Short season

7 of 13 the year before. Shortest season and lowest death total.

Seems snowmobile deaths for both MI & WI may have some cycles to them like a few years ago many deaths due to drowning after breaking thru ice, another year snowmobile car /truck collisions. Last week 1 snowmobile landed on top of another in WI.Too me very difficult to see any trend to signs or lack of signs as cause to death by snowmobile but what do I know each accident causing death needs to be investigated by experts.

When I was up in copper harbor and saw signs for miami, florida, it seemed to me that there still might be too many signs
