DMV is the worst! and they wounder why people have a chip on there shoulder about government workers when DMV is a branch almost every one has to deal with and never has a good experience.

Let's send the road commision packing also. How many men does it really take to hold shovels and BS on a job site. Those jobs need to be private sector. Our schools run much better with out sourced Hot lunch program, out sourced school cleaning service and out sourced school busing. Thank God that finally they are trying to get away from Tenure for the teachers. Who'd I leave out ezra? lol, may as well open the whole can of worms.

USPS going backwards at 32 million per day. Not much at all compared to the Fed Govt. Nothing to see here. Our entire society is insolvent. When the house of cards comes down it will be ugly.

Not to get too far off topic, but, how about the DOT, specifically Mich (MDOT). All of the salt they buy to throw on our roadways by the ton. They drive new rigs & don't use them to their full capacity, like actually plow the roadway. No, they just keep throwing the salt & their concocted brine down which essentially rots our vehicles. Another example of short sightedness is the fact that they send out crew's to paint the lines one week, then, comes the crew to tar the cracks in the road, including the freshly painted lines, Brilliant! Government operations have to change through out the states & the country as a whole. I think it's time to adopt to what Thomas Jefferson once stated, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty". It's time to put the fear into our government.-Mezz

Noooo, Michigan is (was?) the home of the automobile industry, they're just doing their best to support the automobile industry! … So you can do your share, by buying a new car every two years, doncha know! ;)

Surprise, surprise, these days the Arizona DMV is one of the most efficient gummint agencies I've ever seen; you can do most of your business with them on-line, and when/if you ever have to visit one of their offices, you'll be done with your business and out the door in under 30 minutes! A real model of efficiency for other gummint agencies to emulate!

Of course it wasn't always that way. Back in the late 60's you'd have to pack a lunch and spend nearly the entire day in their office to conduct the simplest transaction.

Robin Hood and the US Postal Service …

What the feds need to do is think outside the mailbox: Institute a new tax on email to support the USPS. (Just another extension of the Robin Hood mentality.) (Shhhh, don't let them hear that!)

Or just nationalize it; make the USPS the one single authorized email provider! Hey, why not, if they can nationalize GM, and they're already reading your emails anyway! (Remember ECHELON?) :(

Nash, thats kinda sorta funny, but, it sickens me to see less effort & more $ spent for a poor result. It's sad when your 2 yr old 40g+ veh needs brake rotors, AC lines etc... because of the chloride they use. Sorry, thats not a warranty item, & even if it was, is it right? I've had it with lazy wasteful spending by the gummint in all levels. The end result is still horsehockey along with the money still coming out of the everyday Joe's pocket.-Mezz

I'm on a roll.....

Some may have seen this, but, I thought it was worth the read, this comes from Columnist Charley Reese, enjoy!

This might be funny if it weren't so true. Be sure to read it to the end:

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table at which he is fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways to Tax his ***.

Tax all he has
Then let him know,
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams & hollers,
Tax him some more,
Tax him till he's good & sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he is laid.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom".

When he is gone,
Do Not Relax,
It's to to apply the Inheritance Tax.

I'm still not laughing!-Mezz

my 2 cents regarding the railroad comment. railroads in the u.s. are doing better than they ever have. both safety wise and profit wise. even trucking companys use the railroad for the long haul runs. alot of your u.p.s packages probably spent some time on the rails.

Do you really think UPS uses the railroad. Nobody will wait that long for anything. Now the USPS, they may use the railroads. The railroads would be long gone if they were not subsidized with your tax money. That is a whole nother topic. Railroads are good at moving bulky items that weigh a lot such as coal, wheat, recycled steel, chemicals, and items with very long shelf life.

Actually, the railroads have a system called "intermodal" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermodal_freight_transport which uses standard shipping containers. Containers of goods are offloaded from ships directly to rail cars, then directly to distribution centers or to trucks for DCs not on a spur. I'll bet those blue jeans you are wearing were transported in intermodal freight containers from Asia to LA on a ship, then to a midwest DC on a train, all in the same container. US packaged goods companies also use intermodal rail shipping.

I'll bet UPS uses planes instead of trains because that freight is very time sensitive.

Amtrak is celebrating their 40th. (4 decades). I called my local Post office to find out if mail goes on a passenger train. They said, "Back in the 1800's it did, not sure now".

Yeah, umm, possibly a flippant remark by a postal employee?

Until 1966, most U.S. Postal Service mail was transported on passenger trains. By the 1960s, it was not uncommon for passenger trains to feature a dozen mail cars with only a few passenger cars. The mail contracts kept most passenger trains economically viable. In 1966, the U.S. Postal Service switched to trucks and airplanes, depriving many passenger trains of a major source of revenue.

I remember my uncle working the mail car from St. Paul to Chicago in the 60's on the Burlington Northern line. http://www.myfourthirds.com/document.php?id=61303

I'm gonna guess the USPS ships its long distance mail on UPS planes. http://www.upsmailinnovations.com/support/frequentlyaskedquestions.html

I am still trying to figure out why the mailman parks his jeep in front of my house (most the day) and then delivers mail. You can see the Post office from my front yard. He drives the 2 blocks, then walks????
Let's hope the USPS gets it together, we do not need any interuptions to any of my snowmobile, boating, motorcycle magazine subscriptions.

Railroads still haul 80% of all goods in the US, How do you think all that chinese crap makes its way into the heartland???? 90% of all chinese goods come through the Port of Long Beach California, then loaded onto trains. UPS ships major via railroads, another large trucking co that ships via railroad is Schneider, and JB Hunt, all via Railroad Intermodal. Some of your comments make me Laugh Wayne, such as your Snowy Range-Kmart statement:p
