Used '06 MXZ550 - What to look for?

I'm looking at an '06 MXZ 550 for my 13y/o son to ride, and as a backup sled.

I don't know a lot about REVs, and I wasn't able to find out a lot about this sled with a quick search.

Was there a regular and "X" model that year? (When searching for specs I could only find "X" model info)

Any specific areas or things I should I look for?

What shocks came on these? Are they rebuildable?

Thanks

You can go to Ski-doo's website and get info on this sled . This motor was in afew different models and is a very good motor . The thing with the X is was it a race sled at some point ? a check of the serial number from a dealer would tell you that . from there you would have to go over the sled really well to make sure nothing was bent or damaged

x package

Nobody is racing a 550fan, its just an X-package. Better shocks, handlebar hooks etc. Lots of info on www.dootalk.com. Great sled, Can hang with just about anyone in the twisties, or at least you won't be waiting too long. Light nimble, Revs were a great chassis, great sled to start your riding career out on. Lucky kid.

Thanks for the info so far

I tried the Doo site but the links weren't working to the specs. It might have to do with the dinosaur of a web browser my company makes us use!

I also posted and searched on DooTalk. No answers yet. DooTalk is good but I like it here on JohnDee better.

My son's been riding for awhile and is ready for a step up. He started on a Kitty Cat, then moved to a 250 Bravo, and is now on a 340 Indy Lite. Now he's just got to step up to a Doo!

x package

The x package as footinforever stated is an upgrade on shocks, bars, etc. However the jr snowcross riders use them as their standard race sled. Good dependable sled

Alot of kids are racing these sleds , Ever heard of ISOC (sno-cross) or USCC (cross country)

All answers above are correct! I own a 05 550. The shocks are rebuildable if stock. Definately look for cracked carb boots! They will need changed out if cracked! Couple years there this was an issue boots would crack lean out engine and melt down! Check under sled very well where lower A-arms attach for any damage and check rear skid rails for any bends or damage. Other than that it is just like any other used sled purchase. Your son will have a great time on this sled! It's cormfortable, very stable, will not keep up across the lake but will NOT get left behind in the twisties!!! Avg mpg 12-13 depending on how hard ya ride em'! Great sled for youngster that age if you just trail ride. I still take my sons out for a spin now and then....smile when buddies can't get away in the woods!!! Drives them nuts=-)
