Survived our trip to Utah. We had a fantastic time, stayed at Beaver Creek Lodge in Logan Canyon. They are the best hosts and take great care of their guests, couldn't recommend it enough. We rode for 3 days and were making first tracks all day every day. The last day on Saturday we had so much new snow, over the hood all day. Snowing hard up high so we stayed down low and just went meadow to meadow, blasting thru it. The first two days we only saw 2-3 sleds, saw a few more on Saturday but our guide kept us on fresh snow all day. Avalanche danger was high so we stayed off the steep slopes but still had plenty of fun.

I have never seen a stuck picture like in #1 and #6. Did he get dropped out of an airplane or helicopter?!

He just found a creek unfortunately. Luckily it wasn't wet on the bottom, not that we actually ever found bottom. 4 guys with shovels digging and packing a trail and it came out in about 20 minutes.

Come on people! I'm 51 and these are the days I live for still! It also helps that last winter I was 265 lbs and this winter I'm 215 lbs. I can't ride this style forever so I'm trying to extend it for as long as I can.

But even our guide admitted on Saturday that he was tired and was making dumb mistakes. He paid us the best compliment though and that was that this was the exact same type of riding he and his buddies would be doing. He said for flatlanders we could ride. He said days he has to take out people who just trail ride are not much fun.

Thanks Kelly! You still gotta make it to the north shore sometime. Snow is very deep! We are heading up again tonight and then next weekend is guys weekend up there. I promise not to sink you into a sink hole off the rail road grade. Well, at least I promise to help you get out!

Been to Beaver Creek Lodge twice. Brian runs a first class operation and his rentals and equipment are all current. Great food (at least when Gerald and Vivian where there) and staff.
Highly recommended and I would love to stay there one more time.

First trip there were just 3 of us and we were the only ones at the lodge, being early season and first part of the week,

It was just like we had our own personal chefs!!! New York Strip, huge jumbo shrimp ,BBQ ribs, eggs benedict, etc. I had a very bad cold so I was struggling with that and Viv went out of her way. Hot tea, back rub, hugs and a lot of sympathy!!! All in the package rate!

Wow, looks like epic conditions! Just out of curiosity what got you interested in riding in Utah? I personally know roughly 100 different people from the midwest who travel west at least once a year to ride and i dont know anyone who goes to Utah, but the boondockers movie crew does most of their filming there and the terrain looks awesome!

Good question. A few yrs ago we were talking about going out and we decided we wanted to fly and rent. We were tired of the long drives. I've been to the Big Horns a few times, the Snowies, Cooke City, etc... and we were looking for easy flights and short drive. I'd seen an article on Beaver Creek Lodge in a sled magazine, looked it up, and we decided it fit our needs. Its a inexpensive flight from MPLS to salt lake city, two hour drive from the airport, small enough that its not over run with people (11 rooms), they do packages with meals, sleds, and rooms. Most of the riding is actually done in Southern Idaho and they take great care of their guests. I guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed if you ever go there. Can't control the snow conditions but they will take great care of you.

I saw an article in SnoGoer Mag 5-6 years ago about the lodge written by John Prusack who stayed there. We knew John as he stayed at our cottages (Woodside Cottages) back a number of years ago and rode the Bayfield area. So he convinced me that was the place to go for my first out West experience.

Glad I did. It was the ultimate ride and so impressed me that we returned the next year with a group of 10, including my wife, brother and friends.. Had a blast.

The area offers a good trail network with lots of play areas adjacent to the trails for the casual rider and then areas close by for the intermediate skill level. For those looking for the more back country extreme conditions, they aren't far from trails after some cross country travel through the woods, etc. So the area has a lot to offer and the lodge provides it all.
