Howdy,

Our family has a few days off, I think the dats are Aug 30th - Sept 3rd. We are looking at taking a trip to WI or MN. We have an 8 yr old and a super active 2 yr old. We are thinking maybe a waterpark or an area that we could get out and do some walking/exploring or active type stuff. We have looked at the dells and minneapolis area but any thoughts from some fellow dee'ers?

Looking for something not soooooo crowded.

Maybe?

Our family enjoyed the Dells, especially Great Wolf Lodge when it was raining. They have an indoor water park. The Dells as a whole was very crowded, but a great time.

Door County would provide the active exploring activities, but we do not have a waterpark. If you are interested more info at www.doorcounty.com.

Also, I would give a 10% JD discount at my place (yes, to any JD'ers!). Just PM me and I'll get back to you.

If you pick the Dells, I would highly recommend The Wilderness. Awesome place. Last time we were there they had 3 seperate indoor watermarks plus a huge outdoor one. They also had a laser tag area, huge video arcade, big soft ball shooting area. Like 3 reseraunts on premises They also do not allow the public into their watermarks only people staying there which is nice. Good luck.

The Dells are very nice but we recently took a nice drive along the shore line from Thunder bay to Duluth, that is very scenic lots to see, waterfalls, beautiful lake shore overlooks plenty of shopping and still not overly crowded, you will like it, except for the road construction.

The Brainerd/Baxter area is a great place to go. Good trails to bike or walk, a zillion lakes, tubing down the river over in Crosslake, Waterparks in the hotels, good shopping, lots of little places to check out. And Paul Bunyun!

x2 on Door County!
Love going there lots of stuff to do and I don't mean shopping... well that’s good too, but there’s great sail boat rides in Ephraim. Peninsula State park is beautiful bicycle (they rent them) or drive thru and when your there check out the lookout tower.

There are great little parks one of our favorite is Sand Bay Town Park located on N. Sand Bay Lane on the lake side of the peninsula offers a shallow sand beach just right for families with children. There is plenty of room to run, swings to play on and BBQ's available for picnics and not many people. There even a bathroom available at the park.

Oh and a must do is breakfast at AL Johnsons Swedish Restaurant their Swedish pancakes and Swedish meatballs are to die for. And the kids will get a kick...the building has a grass roof and they have goats that graze on it http://www.aljohnsons.com/swedish_family_restaurant/welcome.asp

And I'll bet dcsnomo will take great care of you too

Well have a great vacation where ever you go!!

Look at the duluth area and the north shore. There's a hotel with an indoor waterpark in Duluth and there's a ton of things to do up the shore. If you like outdoor areas, this is one of the best. Let me know if you have any questions about the area.

There is a hotel in Duluth that has a waterpark. You can't go wrong with the the north shore. Lots of places to see like Gooseberry Falls park, Split Rock Lighthouse and alot of activities in the town of Duluth. Check out the aquarium there it was pretty cool.
