venting

being the wife of a volunteer groomer, and having him give up at least 2 of his evenings a week,it's tough to see him come home ready to quit. Last night he again left at 5:30ish in the afternoon and got home at 4:30 a.m.after having a few complications with another groomer. But while out again he encountered a group that was following him tearing up the trail, turned around when they caught up to him and tore it up heading back, then they sat at the Parkview, saw him heading in the other direction followed him shortly after tore up the trail to Toivola and back then, headed back to Mass where they passed Speedy grooming(he's up on vacation, he volunteered a day) while proceeding to tear up the trail all this was well after 1 a.m. So Dave had a idea next time he encounters stupid people he wants to take their picture and post it here, maybe they'll see their mug shot ! Just a thought and us venting, but the guys come home and have the thought why bother...and even think of quiting. Think you can get in trouble or just deleted if you post pics?

I kinda like the picture idea wouldn't the riders be suprised....Mmmm probably not they'ed probably think they were a superstar being on JD...lol....hope he has a better run next time.....Mrs. Bear

Been there....

I've had that happen to me before too. Guess thats why we don't carry guns in the groomer.

Hard to fix stupid unfortunately. Probably 1) never put cash in the jar, 2) first ones to bitch about the trials and 3) don't realize ribbon needs to set up and that tearing up the fresh groom is root cause for their bitch in pt 2.

Thanks to all groomer drivers and their significant others.

Respect

My blood was boiling after I read the comments so I'll just bite my tongue. Groomer operators are so appreciated I dont think we let you guys know that enough. I truly appreciate the long hours, sacrifice away from your personal life and family's and making the sport more enjoyable. THANKS for all you do! I will have the opportunity to ride these same area's next week. Can't wait. Lets show some respect to the groomers and our fellow riders.

I would guess most people doing this don't realize the effect they're really having. Maybe a ribbon wrecker thread full of pics might educate a few.

Reading this really chaps my azz. What a bunch of LOSERS! Maybe AHOLES would be a better word for them? I don't blame Dave one bit for wanting to quit. Get some pics, if they don't go on here, I can post them up on a couple of different sites.

Hang in there Dave, only amonth and a half to go.

A HUGE THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEER GROOMER OPERATORS AND THEIR BETTER HALFS!

What is the ribbon? I obviously know not to spin the track after passing a groomer, but I don't know what the ribbon is so I can avoid riding on it. Is it the part that just got smoothed out or the part next to it?

It’s not illegal…just inconsiderate. Thanks to all the groomers for what you do for us.

Ditto. Hard to fix stupid. My brother taught me early on to stay off the ribbon.

I can not thank the groomers enough. All you do is solely for the rest of us in the long run. Thank you...

Ribbon

The ribbon is the freshly groomed track. As noted, many people don't understand that the groomer does more than just knock the bumps down. A fresh ribbon is like loose powder when you ride on it. It just blows away from the sleds' tracks. It can take several hours before the snow sets up and freezes hard. The longer it sits undisturbed, the deeper the crust freezes and the longer the trail lasts before breaking down.

Stay off when possible. If you have to ride on a fresh ribbon just take it easy and DON"T blow the corners out. Many trails (ours included) only get groomed once a week. Screw it up right away and thats the way it stays for a week.

well put mnguy, thanks to all for your appreciation for what the guys and yes some gals do,especially those that do it free! Skylar the trail #'s on the sleds were in full view, Dave had the picture thought idea but didn't know where that would lead, it was just a quick thought in the heat of frustration.,Dave, Richard, and Speedy had a long night needless to say,and after having a groomer stuck and taking several hours, a holes only added fuel to the fire. After the guys returned home they both agreed with what one vetran told them, after setting your ribbon just don't look back!Buy the way Skylar the new snow has added 8 plus inches to the backwoods, you should be here to enjoy it, we had several stucks today.Someday I'll have the time to learn that picture posting thing!uuuummmm paint bal, ilike it..After 8 years not sure if we can hang with the patrons of the sport, Sandy and Richard, but they sure are great roll models.

It is disrespectful to the drivers and fellow riders. I'm still kind of disturbed from a ride last week in my local area. We received about 5" or so of new snow and I went out the next day for a ride. Well, most of the 10 or so riders I had seen on the trails were tearing them up! After passing them most corners were blown out with track trenches (pinned throttle) coming out of them and snow mounds at stop signs (or whatever you want to call them). Now I know the groomers had not been out yet but to me it's still uncalled for. I guess they're entitiled to ride it like a snowcross track!? YES I FEEL BETTER NOW!

One of our groomer drivers took it a little bit farther a few years back. He stopped the groomer in the middle of the trail, walked back to the lead guy, yanked him off his sled and threw him on the ground while yelling at him. He got back in the groomer, realized what he just did, drove back to the shop and never ran the groomer again.

A "MUST READ" for all snowmobilers!!!

I came across this article some time ago on trails & grooming, well worth reading!!

It truly is a shame that some feel they have the "right" to tear up a freshly groomed trail!

Have some respect for the hard work of the groomer operators , as well as others who make the trails possible for all to enjoy the trails!
