My laptop got a virus the 1st 5 minutes I was on the new board, "Antivirus System PRO" popped up, and I have to have my laptop rebuilt. Not completely, but a new windows login was assinged for me.

I am having my server hosts check things out, but I run AVG and have not come up with any issues.

My best advice is to get things like Norton and Symantic the heck off your machines! That is unless you want your machines to run like crap and end up with lots of false positives.

My machines all run much better now that I got rid of Norton. Love AVG though!

I used to not have anything on my laptop (stupid, I know) but got AVG about a week ago after I took my laptop in to have a virus removed. I don't think mine came from this site though. My wife downloaded something from Facebook and the computer just went haywire after that! I should be good now with AVG. From what I heard, AVG is pretty decent.

I have to agree with that!
I'm running AVG Anti-Virus Professional Edition ($$$) here. I have been on here several times every day, and it hasn't reported anything yet.

My guess: You're seeing false positives!

Norton blows, I had it, and it sucked, slowed down the puter, and plus it did not catch a lot of things.

I run avast now.

I haven't run Norton since Symantic bought them. F-secure is good. I'm sure AVG is good but I haven't run it. McAfee seems to be as bloated as Norton. The best one I've run is Sophos, but it is for corporate environments.

What where you doing when you got the virus alert? The path it is showing is to the old board, not the new one, so that doesn't make a lot of sense. The only thing that the old path is used for now is pictures.

A scan was run on every file on my site last night and came up clean. So it looks like the Norton was bringing up false positives. I was told perhaps because this site still used frames. Not sure why that is, but just repeating what the experts told me!

Lenny, you crack me up. It's there. They do make the link to the free version a bit more difficult to see than the dozens of links to the pay version (gee, I wonder why!). Keep looking, it's there! Have patience. Keep in mind, free is not always easy!

Lenny, the easiest way to find it is go to download.com, type in avg free and it will bring it right up.

I love all the Norton hating going on. Norton 2009 and on is TOTALLY rewritten from the previous versions. Faster, better, lighter on your computer than anything out there. Remember, you get what you pay for.
