washing machine stink

We have 2 front loaders a Maytag (my mothers) and a GE (mine). Doors are always left closed. No problems with any smell. We are on good Lake Michigan city water.

Because of a guy I work with that has the same GE as me, I found out there is a filter in the drain line. Guess what it's not listed in any book, that came w/ the machine. The problem I had was the water not draining all the way out of the drum. Took the bottom front cover off and found the drain right there easy to get to. Opened it up and found some baby socks and $12 in bills and some change. (From my wife). I check it every so offend now, and use a net dish washing bag for camping to put the baby socks in. All I have found lately is some change (still the wife) and lint.

My point is maybe there is something in in the drain. It might not be blocking it completely, but might be wet enough to grow some stuff in there.

Definitely try bleach with vineger and then leave the door open. If that doesn't work, purchase new washer, the wifes happy and then you'll be happy.

Lots...you probably have enough chlorine in the water to prevent bacterial growth...whereas many have well water with none of that growth preventer in there.

As for the drain screener, unless they expect that large things will get sucked thru the washer, I would not know why a filter on the discharge water would be necessary. Of course leaving it there and collecting cash is a pretty shrewd way to make the piggy bank grow and save enough for a new sled!

Maybe I should be putting one on my top loader?? Hey, maybe my drain pipes are full of money...goin to check that out before I sell....

There is a screen in the drain on mine as well. I had a bunch of change get caught up in there and would not empty the water, plugged the pump completely and it shut down with a warning light.

We have a front loader washing machine for some reason we have begun smelling some stick as it is draining, cloths smell bad also. Bath water and drinking water is good. I thought maybe that big rubber seal in the front of the machine stays wet and stinks but doesn't seem to be that. Does anybody else experience something similar?

My wife has run some vinegar through the machine but still the same

Why is this your problem!!! Let her worry about it. Or tell her to do laundry down by the creek!! You have other things to worry about....like seperating your the color of your beer bottles in the recycle bin, or weaving socks out of the dried up lint basket in the dryer( for this winters riding season!!)

Listen up peeps, the moral of this story is, let the WIVES worry about this, grow some acorns and come down to the pub while the ladies clean the house!!

Use less soap

Lenny,
Our service tech told us to only use the HE soap, and only half of what they call for. 1/8 cup per load for us and we have not had any smelly issues at al in a year and a half. He said the excessive soap is what actually starts to smell because of the decreased water usage it is not getting all rinsed out.

The less soap, the better. And I to am a construction guy with dam dirty clothes.

Works for us!

Is your washer sitting in a metal pan with a drain in it? If so, your trap is dry and is allowing sewer gas to permeate up from underneath. Top it off with some bleach and see if the smell goes away! :)

High Efficiency.

Has the Gov't come out yet with the new SHE, or Super High Efficiency unit? This might be
the best thing this Gov't has come out with....Look for the new SHE rating system. I already use it in my house....(not very efficient though, but will not complain.)

If you're going to hide behind a zagged rock, be sure to take a picture of it so all of us can see what exactly that sort of rock looks like...got my curiosity peaked! (Oh, and Mr. NASH will feel better too!)
