What Do These Numbers Mean ?

I found a site that runs a test on my net connection. I have a DSL thru AT&T. Is this correct ? Download would be coming into my PC and upload is sending out from my PC ?

It has taken me HOURS (six) to load a 3 - 4 min video onto YouTube so I guess either my connection is slow or my PC itself is the problem.

Download - 1305 kbps (163KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload - 308 kbps (38 KB/sec transfer rate

latency/ping 48 ms

How big of a file is the 3-4min video?

Do you know what the connection is suppose to be at in a perfect world?

Sometimes you need to restart your modem, kind of like restarting your computer if you leave it on all the time.

It would be like you going to bed and getting up in the morning refreshed vs staying up for days on end with no sleep.

Welcome to speedtest.net. Yes, download is TO you, upload is FROM you. The numbers you have are slightly better than 2 dixie cups and a string.
Step 1 is to do what yamahauler suggested, shut off pc, router, DSL modem, and let it sit there for about a minute. Then start modem, then router, then pc.

If that doesn't solve it then go HERE for ATT outages.

What speed DSL service did you buy?

Thats funny 2 dixie cups. Ya know it works ok for general use. I have AT&T Express. I found the paperwork from 2005 and it says -

384Kbps - 1.5Mbps down

128 - 384Kbps up

So the service is within spec. OK all you pencil geeks out there, let's see if I get this right!

up load speed= 308,000 per second

340,000,000/308,000=1,104 seconds/60 sec=18.4 Mins to upload, right? OK, problem is yours based on the speeds you got from Speedtest.net

Hmmm...did the reboot help?

That's 308 Kb/sec. (K bits/sec.) * 1024 bits/Kb = 315,392 bits/sec. (or as noted below, 38 K Bytes/second upload speed)!

So:
340MB = 340 * 1024KB/MB = 348,160 KB
348,160 KB ÷ 38 KB/sec upload speed = 9162 seconds
9162 seconds ÷ 60 min./sec. = 152.7 minutes
152.7 minutes ÷ 60 min./hr. = 2 hr. 32 min. 42 sec. Total upload time. (!)

Gotta love 4G. To bad my house is on the edge of 4G. I can get 4G outside, but not in my house. The numbers posted were solidly in 4G area.

Just to be sure we're all on the same page, 48.51 Mbps = 48.51 M bits /sec. — or approximately 6.06 MB (M bytes)/sec.
And 12.53 Mbps = 12.53 M bits /sec. — or approximately 1.566 MB (M bytes)/sec.

Let me see here.....if a bit isn't a byte, and mega is not a milla, if a skeeter lands on me can I swat it or should I let it just suck me dry?
