Here's a couple of photos of a plant that I found growing on the shaded side of our Garden Shed. Any ideas? I don't recall seeing these before, the tops are hollow and I'm wondering if anyone can identify them.

You sure do find lots of things. First a reciept blowing in the wind and now this.

Looks like a Morel, but beware their are a lot of imposters out there.

It's a morel as long as the center is hollow. Not hollow and STAY away.

They are delicious and sell for about $80/lb up here.

I hope there are still some of those around on Monday when I get to go to the lake for the day. Thdy are usually done by now but with the cold spring there may still be some around. Split them in two and if they are hollow, clean them and fry them up in some butter. They are great.

Mushrooms and butter - and maybe just a small New York strip on the side. They look like Morels but I would try a non-fatal sample size first. Worst case, you'll start hearing strains of "White Rabbit".

Thanks for the info guys. The tops are hollow so I guess they're safe to eat, I have no experience with these things and I know they're popular. Mushrooms are one of those foods that I can take'm or leave'm. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.

You just found gold! Wish I lived closer and could take them off your hands!

I found some yesterday in northern MN but it almost seemed a little early for them with the late spring. I think that I will fry some up this week with a nice steak and a couple of cold beers.

Careful with the fungus and yeast, I am dealing with a stomach fungus infection now, what a biotch! All caused by low stomach acid.

Love the morels though, will have to pass eating them this year. Can still hunt for them though, that is half the fun.
