John, just curious what your take may be on this winter weather thus far, haven't really seen or heard any explanation on any outlet. Do you think El nino? does it look like it may be letting up anytime soon? we definitely are not lacking any moisture, just the wrong type. Its the weather, it is what it is, not going to change it but was just curious what your thoughts were.

Yep, El Nino. Almost a textbook atmospheric setup one would expect with it going on the past 4-5 weeks.

No way to tell for sure what the rest of the winter will bring, but my advice would be to have the bags packed and be ready to roll when the area you want to ride has snow. This is not likely to be the type of winter where snow lovers can be too picky about playing.

Thanks John, as far as sledding goes, hope there is enough when we come your way on feb 16 for my once yearly ride, either way still coming just to get out of dodge for a while. Thanks for the response!

Ughhhh, yes - Ol boy has reared his head alright - when you see rain in the U.P. in January it's a pretty good sign. I have a feeling February may give us a few good cold snaps though. (Wishful Thinking Probably, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed)

I was reading on the NOAA site that the Pacific temperatures that cause El Nino have cooled and the warm water is not on the surface anymore. We are now moving into neutral conditions. Hopefully we start seeing that in the forecasts soon! I can't take another day of rain.

I wish that were true. The temps are starting to cool, but are still above average. I would not put too much hope into a major turn around for this winter. I can add that El Nino winters have had a history of finishing strong. So maybe some spring storms.
