What Is Fun On Snowmobiles?

If not going to tell the story, then why bring it up at all then? Everyone has been in that type of situation before, just don't see the need to make a vague post about it.

I doubt WD has ever had a problem letting faster riders go past him....sounds like he is asking why some of the really slow groups seem to think that their pace is the only acceptable one on a given trail.
I pass....I get passed.... always looking back to check....simple stuff, no chip on my shoulder either.

I see more in my wrist mirror than I ever saw on any sled mirrors. Try one, you'll like it.
ahaha I have no mirrors, will have to go to one of those wrist mirrors, keep breaking those sled mirrors off.
Will also be easier on the neck, looking back all the time

I like it all, mountain riding out west, faster and slower trail riding (depending who I'm riding with) will hit a jump when I see one, boondocking in the UP is awesome!

I was hoping the original post would promote conversation about what is fun for them on snowmobiles & open it up to everyone for comment. I didn't want to be specific or focus on just 1 behavior positive or negative which might slant responses. Everyones idea of fun on snowmobiles is different & hopefully some enthusiasts would better understand why others enjoy what they do. Sure some things have happened on the trail this year that are puzzling to me mainly because I tend to bring all types of riders together for rides. I'm a do your own thing type of person just be safe & respectful of others on the trail & it is all good to me. What gets me is the enthusiasts that think their type of riding is the only acceptable style of fun. Hopefully whoever they might be can read thru these posts & start to see snowmobiling from many different perspectives & be more tolerant of everyone.

i'll give it a go mate

heres one type o fun. you wake up and look out the cabin or room. the sun is shining and in the distance are some snowy peaks. you check temp and its 15 degrees but sunny and clear and slated to go up to 25. you eat and dress. adrenline starts pumping now as the sleds kick into idle one by one until all 15 are humming a sweet morning tune with a tad of sweet stroke smell in the air. you take off out from the resort and start going up and up and your ears are popping heart racing now with days excitement ahead. turn right onto unplowed seasonal road that's wide and deep with fresh powder. up, up, up, turning, carving in fresh untouched snow. now you get to trail and altitude is 7000 feet and adreniline pumping hard as you turn onto the groomed trail. ahead the trail snakes and winds upward toward peaks. you scan each bend you go around and every switchback for a huge sloping hill to climb on. you see it. turn hard left and give it WOT as you jump up the 8 foot embankment and ploof....all you can hear is the ROAR of the engine and the pumping o you blood as you start gaining speed and altitude and there it is ahead....a 20 foot swell of snow and another behind it....you aim right for it still climbing and WOT....BOOOOOFFFFF.....shield covered, face cold with powder....now it clears....another....BOOOOOFFFFFFF....20 more ahead...weave....bob.....jump....until you approach the top...time to slow down as you near the ridge...adrenaline pumping hard again as you not sure if cliff or drop off on other side....WHAM....YOU BRAKE HARD...right at the top...wait for the fellas to come up one by one and just relax and look around and enjoy the smells way up there while laughing at the carnage below....get ready to go help and dig em out....that my friends is BUT ONE ADVENTURE THATS FUN

PS....how did I do?

Maybe that was me and my two kids and it was their first or second time on a trail. They just weren't comfortable yet.

Sorry for wrecking your ride.....NOT!

Well stated Doug!

Did I say anything about kids????? Where does it say kids ?? There were no kids on the trail at 10 AM on a Tuesday. Get off your box. Until they make 3 sets of trails - one for women and kids, one for drunken Rickies and one exclusively for groomer operators - we all have to share the same trail. Show a little respect and pull over for faster groups. Why is this such a big deal? Low snow year I guess.

Another guy....read what you typed. I will never understand why a person would go 35 or even less on a nice wide rail with no sharp turns. You didn't say a darn thing about kids....had you said anything about kids or women..all good here.

My perspective.....I'm a city boy, born, raised, and currently living there. Have loved snow and winter since I was a kid, never outgrew it. So any time away from the concrete jungle and in the saddle is good for me -- fast, slow, makes no difference. My fix is simply riding -- as long as it's not boondocking (too much like work for me -- but if that's your bag, go for it). :)

I love snowmobiling. Doesn't matter if it's trails, woods, creek bottoms or the mountains. At this stage in my life, 48 years old, I find the challenge of a creek bottom, and side hilling across a hill, to be an absolute blast. Carving up a logging road after a big dump of les, is a blast.

When riding trails, you're going to come across all kinds. The key is to have patience, and don't let anything ruin your day. :)

Usually when my wife and I ride we seldom go over 45mph. But I tell her to keep an eye out for other sleds coming up to just pull over and let them go. I'm also looking out for her so I can pull over also. I don't really care how other people ride, but I don't really care for the riders that think they have to nail the throttle as there passing us throwing snow and ice our way. I mean really, we pulled over for ya.

Agree. roosting you is just not right. a small caliber handgun could be justified at that point IMO.
