From MI DNR website:
A Person Shall Not Operate a Snowmobile:
•In an area open to public hunting during the November 15-30 firearm deer season from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Not sure about today through Friday in MI.

In WI the trails go over many private lands. Several landowners want peace and quiet to hunt their own land, so they give permission only after they are finished hunting their land, which is the end of deer season. Correct me if I am wrong.

You guys actually have any deer left to hunt? I thought the wolves and the 'yotes ate them all. Numbers down big time here also. Very few doe tags issued.

....Not sure about today through Friday in MI..

It's technically legal but most private land is still gated off until Dec 1st.....I did see a guy giving a ski-doo heck on the way back from a Drs appt in Munising........I wouldn't do it; ground's not frozen yet.

Please don't piss off the hunters, They have a much bigger lobby and way more pull with the DNR than we do. We don't need them adding anymore late season hunts as it is. We will get our turn. And I say this as a very avid hunter and snowmobiler.

Everyone R-E-L-A-X... I started this thread to see what was legally doable in both MI & WI & seems we do have some limited legal opportunties on both WI & MI trails if you want to travel to those areas. Me as much as it pains me I'm sitting it out until trails open...However if my lake sets up I'm going to shake my sled out & won't bother anybody since no one here but me.lol

This discussion jumps back and forth between MI and WI. WI Trails are no go because easments are not valid until 12/1 and the Trails open after Deer hunting. You can ride ditches providing you stay on the Right of way in Wisconsin with no hour restriction. If you want to ride in Wi you can ride on my Trail section and pack the Swamps, bring your life Jacket and Grass cutters.

There ARE trails in WI you can ride now. The Wild Rivers Trail from Rice Lake to Superior is legal as well as the Tri-County Corridor from Superior to Ashland. The Tuscobia might be open as well but I'm not 100% sure. There may be other multi-use trails open (Bearskin?) but one would have to check.

These are all RR grades but at least you can scratch the itch if you want. Saw tracks on the Wild Rivers today. If I had somebody to go with, I'd go to!

Hopefully, but doubtful, the hunters with trucks, ATV's, etc. will stay off of them. One can only hope right?

Naw.... they will atv rut them BUT not the entire trail system....hunters not supposed to use Vilas snomo trails for trucks & atvs but they do durning deer hunting season. I don't care let them hunt & will be done soon enough + I have plenty of family coming up for Thanksgiving.... the hard part is right now sitting & looking at all this snow on the ground & in the air. :) It is the black powder season that grates me not many deer killed in Vilas by black powder less than 10 or so but snomo clubs might give it ago before 12th just have to see what big money does/wants??

There WAS talk within Vilas Cty. last year of opening the trails in early December and the heck with the extra deer season. Hardly anybody hunts up there anyway if there's snow and they're losing tourism $$$ by not being open and they know it.

Haven't heard anything recently about it have you?

I fired up the pro today and went for a 5 mile ride to make sure she is ready for the season. I put er away clean, dry and proper and she ran like new. It's a carvers paradise out there people. Snow coming over the hood, probably did 3 miles of just carving and I was all smiles! Gotta go help some hunters get to camp tomorrow, break trail that is so they can get to camp. Imagine that, A sledder and hunter working together and we all win! Yea baby!!!!!!!

Will post some pics probably!

Vilas is saying all Trails will open December 12th but big money will probably move the opener up to 1st week of Dec like you said they won't turn their backs tourism $$$ with all this snow on the ground. Black powder is zippo for tourism $$$ so may keep a few gates closed if private land owners want to hunt but not likely if these snow conditions hold up. Had another 4" in last 2 days so plenty of snow everywhere got to be pushing 20" or more single digits at nights & lakes setting up the land & lakes will be good to go by Dec 1.
