Ahhhhh,....
Yep,...
Meeting a Ton of y'all from this site,... experiencing everything you said,...
Ya sure can't beat that!
But I will have to thank my Mom and Dad,... for getting into the sport back in the
Late 60's. My dad drove truck and was gone all the time except for the weekends,...
and they made every penny stretch. They must have seen the future,... on how
sledding fun could bring families close together,... especially in those deep snow dead
Wisconsin winters back then.
'Cuz to have them "invest" in them new powered fun machines,....
Man,... I couldn't wait for my dad to come home on a Friday
night,... I would hold the treble light,.. and hand him his beer,... while him and his buddy would replace cleats, fix the broken suspensions,... and make sure everything was ready for those Saturday and Sunday family rides.
How he would stand there looking proud as his young whipper-snapper would go round and
round the yard on that old Fox Trac,... then them big old 69 Polaris Mustangs.
As I got older,...He would have me go out to the shed in the back and bring up all the sleds and make sure they were all gassed up and ready to go,....The only "groomed" trails at that time were a 100 mile loop around the Crivitz area,... so it was ditch banging and permission-granted-in between the trees-on private land trails to get to them. An All day event,...capped off with weeny roasts and such.
They could have easily NOT have gotten into the sport,.. and then "I" probably would have
had different intrests today. Whew! Thank GOD for those good old days,... which made the Good NEW days of today possible.
Any day on the snow,.... with good friends is a GREAT day!.
When ever I want to "escape" to a happy place,... I remember this "hidden" field area,..
(which today, would be a "carvers" Paradise),....
I would start up one of the sleds,... and go out there, and make this big Oval race track,..
(by going 'round and 'round and 'round) and after playing in what seemed all day,...
I would shut the sled off,.. and lay my head on the back rest and just listen to the
quiet of Mother Nature,... as snowflakes the size of Silver Dollars fell contiuously from the
sky,... melting on my face.
No Bills,... No Stress,... No Worries,.....
Just Peace.
Ahhhhhhhh.
