How does that work when you have the random check or debit transaction that is a one off or new transaction?

I use my credit card to pay for 95% of what I buy. Then just pay it of each month. I get cash back/ rewards and that layer of isolation... or least limiting the amount of transaction on my bank account. Which makes it easy to spot oddball transaction.

I've never had an issue with my bank but my main credit card has been hit 5 times in the last 20 years... All due to company's like Home Depot getting hacked... Infact 3 of the 5 time were directly related to Home Depot.
lofsfire,

you can either notify your bank ahead of time and you won't get an alert (email). If you run it through and when your bank gets the check presented for payment and if they don't have prior authorization they send an email notifying you that you need to verify a payment. In my case I log into the bank website and look at the payment. If I recognize it I will authorize the payment. I have until the next business day at 1:00pm to authorize or reject the payment. Bank keeps a list of regular vendors / payees which can be updated as you go along. My bank said fraud is going through the roof for some reason and I actually had an unauthorized ACH debit go through which I did not recognize. Turned out to be fraudulent and this is what connected me to positive pay. I tried to make that as short as possible.

Hope that helps.
