Fascinating stuff Gary, thanks for posting! I think I agree with the narrator on the current manufacturer attitude but I might disagree on one of his main points. In the early 2000’s, Polaris made a legitimate effort to produce a low-cost sled with the Super Sport and the 550 Shift. Ski-Doo did the same with the Freestyle. These models were exactly what the narrator suggests the manufacturers do: build a sled that is affordable so a family might own more than one or might appeal to an entry level sledder.
Problem is, I don’t think these models sold well, as they were dropped rather quickly. While they were certainly up to the task of what they were designed for, there was a lot of fun made of their lack of power and sophistication. The manufacturers probably looked at the sales numbers and decided there was no market potential.
It’s also interesting that a lot of the late model action shots in the video showcased sled capabilities that are only available on the most expensive, powerful sleds on the market. It seemed to contradict the argument.
