Which is cheaper?

Last weekend, I met a small tree. As I waited for my buddies to return for me, I called a left a phone message that I was taking an unscheduled smoke break and would be just hanging out. Sorry I digress. On checking my damage, it was not a lot but I will want to replace/repair to damaged parts. I usually take my sleds to a dealer for all of the work. I'm now asking, would it be cheaper for me to find the new parts or just leave it to the dealer? (I am non-mechanical or I would do the work myself). Thanks in advance for any input. PS; I did have Miles of Smiles on the trip.

Do you mean you would walk into the dealership with sled and parts in hand and want them to supply the labor?....not sure that would sit well with alot of places that also make a small profit on parts mark-up as well. On the other hand if you have a friend or know of someone in a small repair shop they may be more open to your needs as you having the parts saves them time if they are a one man operation and such.

Expand on the specific damage.
The "experts" can better assist you.
My take, fix it yourself, if you can.

by small a min of 35%
a lot of the smaller shops dont mind using used parts and may even have a parts sled out back.
I help a bud from time to time in his shop and we use used parts all the time on older stuff on customers request.
with a lot of older water craft doo stuff u have no option but to go used.

Thanks for the in put. Snobuilder, I understand what you are saying about the price markup for ordering the parts. I was just thinking about saving the dealer some trouble. I know they would charge me for the labor. Onlypolar4me, to get the damage parts would cost me under $300. So it would not be prudent to make a claim where I have a $500 deductible. But, thanks everyone for your points of view.

Order the parts. Get a buddy who can help you. Maybe a 12 pack. And work on it. You may be surprised at your mechanical ability and, it makes for some good memories and stories which always stretch over the years.

what kind of tree is it? did you ask the tree how it felt about any of this?

The trees generally laugh 3 to 5 years, Depending on the diameter. I know of one tree that is still laughing from being hit almost 10 years ago.
It was about 7" in diameter and took out a Two-up over 500lbs.

Had a similar situation... Crashed the sled. Found a "guy" who was going to fix it cheap (and fast). I ordered most of the parts for him; turned out to be a much bigger fix than either of us thought. Took months to get the parts, guy had personal medical issues and couldn't do the work. So I took the whole thing to my dealer, parts & all. Dealer didn't so much as blink. Even worked with me to include parts I'd already bought into the insurance claim.
