For some reason Knik sounded familar to me so I called the wife as asked her. Turns out it was the name of the the traincar that we were on between Anchorage to Fairbanks. I can remember that trip clearly especially since on one bus ride to Anchorage I saw guys sledding right off the road and it was the middle of May. At one point it was raining in Juneau and we took a tram up approx 2000ft and it was snowing, not to mention still a ft or more snow in areas even at that level. It sure is a wild place up there, glad to hear they are doing ok. We all know w/o the right gear things could be tough.

when I was a kid we would go tubing on a glacier about 45 min out of Anchorage you would drive off road for like 5 min and come up on families grilling sliding playing Frisbee and such in july on a Glacier.cant remember the name now but the old man told me a few yrs back it is now a nat park and no more playing on the glacier

Anyone read the "Similar Stories" in the link at the bottom of the page. Looks like the CG helo crashed also.

Why the Helo rescue anyways if the could ski there in a white out why not ski or sled out when clear? They only reported the group to have "minor bruises". After all they were there for site seeing! I know don't have all the facts, age, mobility of people, etc. I just asking. Sounds like everyone is fine and that is what is important.
